Rebel Energy is the latest of 32 energy retailers to go bust since 2020. But if it wasn't so committed to its "mission" of battling injustices and saving the planet maybe it would still be a going concern, says Ben Pile.

Jump To Comment: 6 5 4 3 2 1That depends on how you plan to deal with bank loans. I don't know the exact process by which darrel dealt with his loans but if you discharge (which can be done with your signature) you can pay the loan in full. Banks create credit outta thin air, and can write it off back into thin air, the only way a debt can still exist is if you don't discharge it, paying normally is a way to discharge a loan, might as well use your signature instead. Research the bankers angle.
This leaves no one hold a liability, not the person who borrowed or the bank who never told you in the 1st place that they created the credit outta thin air on top of the existing deposits. So if your still feeling sorry for the dishonest banks who put up no collateral of their own, who stood to lose nothing, stood to gain only receipt of so many countless hours of our labour, and are now foreclosing how many families a month? then you really need to take a look at the bigger picture. The banks don't give you anything of their own, they make no loss 'lending' to you and then can kick you out of YOUR home if you don't succeed in paying them before the next economic crash, and all of a sudden Darrel and others like him who are standing up to the banks are the dishonest ones rather than the banks themselves? No wonder this country is being walked all over if that's the prevailing attitude. Do your homework on the subject of commerce before making comments on it, because economy, banking and money does not operate how most people believe it does.
Here's 2 films explaining how the most destructive acts of banking fraud are carried out at the top of the banking industry, and in the most fundamental aspects of the way the system actually operates. The whole system is a fraud, with defaults, bankruptcy and recessions literally built into the system, its called fractional reserve banking:

Good luck...
if the money didn't exist then how come Darrel got to buy himself 700,000 euro worth of real stuff with it before he did a runner and dumped his responsibilities on the taxpayer?
because he borrowed 700,000 euro then did a runner and left the taxpayer to carry the can. Now he glorifies it in a book he hopes to sell to the taxpayer. What a gombeen asshole. How did he spend the 700,000 thats what I want to know. Nice car? Yacht? Cocaine in the bellybutton of a high class escort? Soverign man my ass! Gombeen Man more like.
700,000. How long would that keep a special needs teacher employed?
If people want to discuss how to avoid paying their greedy excessive bank loans and forcing the taxpayer to have to pay instead then please have that criminal gombeen discussion elsewhere. Some of us find that kind of dishonest behaviour rather vulgar and that whole "cute hoor" gombeen attitude has contributed to the mess we are now in. Killing off BOI is not a solution to our problems. It's Anglo Irish that is the main problem. Are you or your gombeen friends betting against BOI shares on the stockmarket or something??
