John Pilger's Investigation Into the War on WikiLeaks and His Interview With Julian Assange

A few years ago a debate in New York brought together some of the world's leading journalists including John Pilger, Seymour Hersh, Robert Fisk and Charles Glass, for a debate called 'Breaking the Silence: War, lies and empire'.John Pilger's address was, 'War by Media' something a lot of people at the receiving end of British brutality, here in Occupied Ireland, have come to be very aware of over the course of the last forty year phase, of Britain's war on Ireland.

Pilger said that "During the Cold War, a group of Russian journalists toured the U.S.. On the last day, they were asked for their opinions, their spokesperson replied, “I have to tell you, we were astonished to find, after reading all the newspapers and watching TV, that all the opinions on all the vital issues were, by and large, the same. To get that result in our country, we imprison people, we tear out their fingernails. Here, you don't have that. What's the secret? How do you do it?”

The secret the Russians were witnessing was censorship by omission, the corporate product of a parallel universe of unspoken virtual truth, spin and lies. Censorship using journalists, which has now become war by embedded journalism. This is the most widespread, powerful form of censorship. It is incessant indoctrination and its power means life or death to several million people in Palestine, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan and quite likely Iran in the near future,

Dissidents in the former Czechoslovakia after the Stalinist invasion, such as Vandana Shiva spoke of their 'subjugated knowledge' meaning truth comes from the ground up, rarely from the top down. The famous dissident group, Charter 77 in Prague included a novelist called Zdener Urbanek, who said, “We are more fortunate than you in the West, in one respect. We believe nothing of what we read in the newspapers and watch on television, nothing of the official truth. unlike you, we have learned to read between the lines of the media. unlike you, we know that that real truth is always subversive.” Political dissidents in British Occupied Ireland identify totally with this.

The cliché that the truth is the first casualty in war, can now be more accurately termed, journalism is the first casualty. Britain for much of its 800 year of occupation in Ireland, has being constantly fighting Imperialist wars all over the world, raising a standing army for a new war at least every ten years, parallel to this people in Ireland along with their own working class have had to listen to centuries of John Bullscutter's incessant war on the truth, which is copper fastened with their Officials Secret's Act and lengthy prison sentences for rare truth tellers.

Atrocities in British Imperialist wars are not aberrations, people learned in Ireland that war itself was an atrocity. That is the important story, they want censored. Invasion by Britain is a term never used, thats another very important fact they want censored.. With so few real journalists with any sort of integrity around, it is left to whistle blowers like WikiLeaks to tell the truth, which with Britain's use of Officials Secrets Act, becomes the subversive truth. In British Occupied Ireland right up to the present day, under the cover of a pseudo peace process, British war crimes are still being committed by the Britain but media omission is censoring it.

Hollywood movies for Americans are often a platform, in the aftermath of their wars, to tell their glorious stories and an extension of their journalism. British Occupied Ireland post, pseudo, peace process has now to contend with a 100 million pound monster palace, created in Hollywood Ireland, yes Hollywood, to house British secret service spooks, planting tall stories of disinformation in the media, censoring, planting their agents in the Irish media, selectively platforming 'their politician's, effectively making the atrocity that is their war on the Irish people normal without any semblance of democracy and framing the virtual Irish political reality under its control, for the Irish electorate and British interests.

The lack of truth about what has really happened in British occupied Ireland primarily by the BBC world service with their media promoted myth, of a virtual honourable army in an Irish sectarian feud, masks the true scale of British mentored slaughter and war crimes in Ireland. This allowed Tony Blair to renew the myth of the same 'noble army' subsequently invading Iraq and Afghanistan, with more British slaughter yet again unreported by their embedded journalists, who like their experience in Ireland, just spouted and repeated Army propaganda press releases, verbatum, after each incident, which by omission, bore hardly any resemblance to the reality of what actually happened.

In Britain the BBC where John Pilger used to work for the BBC, verifies that the BBC hypocritically promotes itself as a beacon of objective journalism of truth and impartiality, when in fact it has rivers of blood on its royal appointed corporate hands. In studies of BBC's reporting, in the build-up to the Iraq invasion, the BBC gave just two per cent coverage to anti-war dissent, less than the total anti-war coverage of all the American networks put together. Another study at a University College in Cardiff showed 90 per cent of the BBC's references to WMD, suggested Saddam Hussein possessed them and that Bush and Blair were right to invade.

It is now public knowledge the BBC and media were used by MI-6, the British secret intelligence service, in Operation Mass Appeal, MI6 planted stories about WMD in palaces and secret bunkers. These stories were fake from the well practiced, centuries old British craft, of the dark arts of perfidious Albion's agencies, such as MI-5 and MI6, while a systematic campaign of media self-censorship was producing the same result elsewhere.

Subsequently BBC's Director of News was asked, to explain how her “embedded” journalists in Iraq, could describe the Iraq invasion as “bringing democracy and human rights” to Iraq. She replied by quoting Tony Blair, that it was the truth, as if Blair and truth were one and the same. This journalistic servility is they sell as “objectivity”. The BBC in Washington shortly after the invasion said, “There is no doubt that the desire to bring good, to bring American values to the rest of the world, and especially now in the Middle East .is now increasingly tied up with military power", while later praising Paul Wolfowitz its architect, as "someone who believes passionately in the power of democracy and grassroots development."

On the third anniversary of the invasion, the BBC described it as a "miscalculation", despite casualties that are at a minimum hundreds of thousand of dead civilians, some say up to a million and a half, yet it is not according to BBC standards, illegal, unprovoked or based on lies. Neither is it a war crime as defined at Nuremberg. No !, its a miscalculation, again like Ireland today portraying unthinkable invasion by any insane or uncivilized society, as normal. This highly subjective twaddle comes from ivory towers of hypocrisy, on foundations of censorship systematic and a police state Official Secrets Act making war even on its own people.

It is said the internet is an alternative, with the rebellious spirit of reporting as journalists should. Mavericks in the tradition of the great muckrakers, like Irish journalist Claude Cockburn, who said: "Never believe anything until it is officially denied." The internet is still a kind of a underground but unfortunately most of humanity does not log on, while the right to know needs to be universal. It is now said that, the majority of the people are denied the truth along with ideas of truth, in both British scum states of Ireland, it's time to storm the "Bastille of words". This is that time, here, now. An article below, clarifies this further as only John Pilger could..
