Yesterday, in Shop Street, activists and supporters of Shell to Sea and Galway Free Palestine Campaign found common cause and empathy in their resistance to the murderous abuse of state and corporate power: in the case of Israel; egregious and genocidal, in the case of Shell, the bending of corrupt governments to its will; from the judicial murder of the Ogoni 9 in Nigeria to, in Ireland, the jailing of the Rossport 5, economic treason through the giveaway of the Corrib field gas by notorious corrupt politicians, the criminalization and bulldozing of dissent through the deployment of Navy gunships, the shoot-to-kill Emergency Response Unit and a security outfit, hand in glove with the Garda, arm-in-arm with an openly fascist paramilitary group and favoured by Fianna Fail for its Ard Fheiseanna over the past few years. read full story / add a comment

In its ongoing campaign of picketing Galway businesses unethically selling Israeli products, activists with the Free Palestine Campaign are assiduous in their duty to conscience and human rights, of equal committment to base slander, malevolence and malodorous porkies are the management and security of Woodies DIY store, off the Headford Road, Galway, who unfailingly call in the Gardai to get rid of us on spurious and malevolent grounds: that we abuse, swear at and curse their customers, are aggressive towards them, block the entrance to their store and the area, which is a public space for commercial activities, is "private property." read full story / add a comment

Yesterday, in the Galway Alliance Against War organised 99 Red Balloons Peace Event, revulsion and outrage were expressed against the highjacking of the relatively pristine Volvo Ocean Race to piggy back a display by the RAF Red Arrows over Galway Bay, touting militarism with their bullshit antics in the sky and catering to the desensitized appetites of the faithful down below - some of whom, in the throes of their warped morality hurled abuse at the peace mongers assembled in the Spanish Arch Plaza. read full story / add a comment

The Galway Alliance Against War will hold a 99 Red Balloon Peace Event this Saturday at noon beside the Spanish Arch to protest against an “air display” by the RAF’s Red Arrows. Nearly every one of the pilots participating in this war manoeuvre over Galway Bay at midday on Saturday has been involved in the imperialist wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. read full story / add a comment

Shell to Sea Galway pulled off a great publicity stunt last Saturday on the first night of the Galway ocean races of which Topaz is a main sponsor. The aim was to inform people that Topaz is Shell and encourage people to boycott Topaz. They arranged for a Kila member to wear a Shell to Sea t-shirt while playing on the Topaz mainstage, handed out fliers in the crowd and had several anti-shell/anti-topaz banners in the area. One banner which read 'Let's Do It Galway, Send Shell to Hell, Corribsos.com' was unfurled at the foot of the stage while Kila was playing, and when security attempted to take the banner from Shell to Sea and Climate Camp activists in the crowd, a Kila member came down from the stage, retrieved the banner from the security guard, and put it up on stage for everyone to see! read full story / add a comment

On Saturday Afternoon, Galwegians and their friends from around the country and world, came together on newly renamed (by us), Anti-Shop Street, to take back our space from the capitalist, consumerist culture which has taken it over, with its bizarre ideas of a life dedicated to shopping, spending, buying and profit, so that we could share an experience of another world, where everything is free, people share and give food, fun, stuff and life, simply because they can and it just feels good! read full story / add a comment

The morning of 17th April last before he was murdered, 30-year-old Basem Ibrahim Abu-Rahma went to the house of Hamis in the village of Bil'in to dispense his medicine - 3 months previously, Hamis sustained head injuries as a result of being struck by the same type high velocity tear gas bullet that would kill Basem, "then off he went to visit another friend in the village who is ill with cancer. Then a little girl from the village wanted a pineapple but couldn’t find any in the local stores. So Basem went to Ramallah to get a pineapple and was back before noon for the Friday prayers and the weekly demonstration against the theft of our land by the apartheid wall" http://www.bilin-ffj.org/index.php?option=com_content&t...id=30.

Lee Welch

Preview: Thrusday 16th 2009 6-8pm
April 17th - May 23th 2009

At the still point of the turning world. offers a constellation of points of reference, provocation and stimulation. Nonetheless, the show is modest in its form, comprising of a small array of carefully selected elements, which have been placed with thoughtful deliberation throughout the gallery space. Materials derived from contemporary phenomena and historic events make up much of this exhibition, including vintage magazine advertisements, rare editions of books and bootleg records. As the title suggests, At the still point of the turning world. offers a quiet and still space for reflection. read full story / add a comment

For the past number of weeks, disreputable Aldi have been fraudently selling Israeli ruby red grapefruit labeled; Produce of Cyprus and this offence is being currently investigated by Environmental Health Officers from the Health Service Executive who are under contract to Food Safety Authority of Ireland. Further, it is reliably reported that the Cypriot ambassador to Ireland, Sotos A. Liassides has referred this matter back to his government for vigorous action and in the meantime has asked Aldi to remove all reference to Cyprus on the grapefruit labels, commenting that Aldi are "trying desperately to get rid of their (Israeli grapefruit) stock by presenting it as Cypriot." read full story / add a comment

Besides the draconian and unjust imprisonment of Maura Harrington for the relatively mild offence of slapping a Guard across the face during of the course of a Shell operation in which 20 protestors were injured by Garda acting as Shell's thugs and battering ram in forcing a path for a digger and which none of them have been brought to book, it was the sinister decision of Judge Devins for Maura Harrington to be psychiatrically assessed that drew the most condemnation and fire, notably Senator David Norris who described it as "terribly, terribly, dangerous.” read full story / add a comment

"It's a living organism that has a very nasty, evil side to its ideology, but it ends there, it begins there and it ends there and we shouldn't, again, exaggerate our analysis of Zionism beyond the fact that from a Palestine perspective, it is a destructive ideology, it's bad enough, it has nothing else to it and nothing else should be added to this."

"They (EU politicians) don't want to talk about Zionism as colonialism, as racism, they don't want to talk about genocidal policies, ethnic cleansing policies, crimes against humanity, war crimes"
