2006 Nobel Prize nominee and conscience of Israel; the sweet and affable Jeff Halper delivered a damning indictment on Israel to a packed Nun's Island Theatre in Galway yesterday evening and, to boot, graced the Free Palestine Campaign information stall in Shop Street this morning for an hour before heading down to Clonakilty, Co.Cork, where in O'Donovans Hotel at 8.00PM, hopefully, he'll be delivering a similar broadside?. read full story / add a comment

National Shipyard Workers go on strike on 16th of June to stop workplace deaths in Tuzla, near Istanbul in Turkey. There had been 11 deaths since the Minister of Employment and Social Security promised the issue was going to be "handled" by the ministry and the workers would be listened to on 8th of September last and 82 in total in the last 5 years since the jobs were handed over to the subcontractors as part of government's privatization programme. read full story / add a comment

For the past four weeks BATU staff have been on strike and have been picketing the union's main office in Dublin. The strike is against the forced redundancy of two union officials, Tom Fitzgerald and Rob Kelly, and against the threat to impose wage cuts and detrimental changes to the conditions of administrative staff. It is a strike in defense of basic trade union principles. read full story / add a comment

In a timely statement on May 1st, nurses in Cork city's A & E service poured scorn on the HSE. Part of the reason why they did this was because of the ongoing situation at Cork's Mercy Hospital. In their statement, the nurses said that it was their "collective view that patient care is being compromised and that it is only a matter of time before there are serious issues and incidents ..." A month on from that statement there has been no resolution in the Cork area. The Workers Solidarity Movement look at the issues and how the impasse could be resolved. read full story / add a comment

We must continue to connect up the dotted lines in the web of deceipt, mass murder, torture and militarisation that is being facilitated at Shannon airport.
The Lisbon Treaty, with its NATO entanglement is part of this growing web, as is Ireland's fraudulent neutrality.

Well over one million US troops have transited through Shannon airport since 20 March 2003.
CIA are still using Shannon as a refuelling stop for its torture rendition planes, usually at about 2 am in the morning. Torture is best hidden in the dark of night.
One million US troops fighting unlawful wars, also need millions of tons of military cargo including depleted uranium bombs, so that they can more easily kill innocent people. When one is engaged in an unlawful war, all the victims of such a war are innocent. The principal unlawful combatants in Iraq are the US military and US and other colaition of the willing mercenaries such as Blackwater. read full story / add a comment

For the past two weeks the focus of the Free Palestine Campaign group in Galway has been harvesting signatures for our petition calling on the EU (and the Irish government to work towards effecting it) to suspend or terminate the Euro-Med Agreement, which economically privileges Israel with access to the EU market, due to that country's gross and willful trampling of Palestinian human rights, International Law, Geneva Conventions and Part 2 of the Agreement .

When it comes to Palestine, the moral rot of the EU in refusing to suspend the Agreement does'nt stop there, it's deep and pernicious and with the passing of the Lisbon Treaty will deleteriously effect and infect Palestine further?. read full story / add a comment
