October 29th is the big day in our campaign to push for Ireland to update it's outdated 100 year old Protection of Animals Act. We need new, proper, meaningful and modern legislation that reflects society's treatment towards animals and whilst this will be a tough challenge to achieve, we're deadly pressed to ensure we fight as hards as possible. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The next WWAM will take place, as planned, between 23 September and 30 September 2011. The aim is to promote again and again the idea that the production and consumption of animal flesh must be abolished. The idea is to claim loud and clear that it is not only the duty of each individual to stop supporting the murderous exploitation required by the consumption of animal flesh and "by-products", but that it is also, therefore, the duty of societies as a whole to declare themselves for the banning of farming, fishing and hunting. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The AFAR group has been contacted by various people expressing their disgust at the prospect of an animal abusing event in Galway. Are Donkey derbys not a relic of bygone days? This is the front page of the CURRENT Galway Independent. As part of a forthcoming "comedy" festival, radio presenter (Hector OhEochagáin) is publicising a Donkey Derby. AFAR is totally opposed to cruel spectacles especially in light of the increasing number of horse and equine cases that have come to light.animal violations are increasing at an alarming rate as any one will confirm who is involved in animal protection. This farce of bygone days shows lact of iniative and forethought and blatent disregard for sentient gentle animals. read full story / add a comment ![]()

We've seen the horrific images, we've heard their screams, and we know the suffering animals are enduring. Animal rescue groups, individuals and campaign groups are swept off their feet trying to deal with the huge surge in abandoned animals and cruelty cases, and we're desperately trying to fight back any further abuses from happening, whilst working to change hearts and minds. We don't need to remind you as to how bad the situation for animals is in Ireland. There is something you can do about it. It's shameful to say that our only scrap of legislation we currently have dates back to 1911, that's right, 1911. read full story / add a comment ![]()

AFAR would like to strongly condemn the killing of four horses at Tramore Racetrack on Sunday . APPARENTLY …a combination of fast ground and tight bends contributed to an incident-filled four-day festival at Tramore last week but there was an unfortunate heavy toll on Sunday. AFAR does not accept the weak excuses for these animals losing their lives and suffering needlessy in the name of profit and gambling. read full story / add a comment![]()

![]() Hi, We're launching a new campaign to ensure that a ban on fur farming is included in the upcoming Animal Health & Welfare Bill. Part of this campaign will include touring the counties that have fur farms - to host awareness days, do leaflet drops, organise meetings with local councillors and TD's, as well as having protests at the actual farms too. To start things off, we'll be having a simple 'Awareness Day' in Laois, home of Ireland's largest fur farm, Vasa Ltd. read full story / add a comment![]()
