A peaceful protest by an alliance of animal protection and anti-bloodsports groups will be staged outside the Dail on October 18th calling on Government to remove exemptions for hunts and coursing in new Animal Welfare Act and to honour its pledge to ban cruel fox "dig-outs"...

Date: Thursday October 18th.
Venue: Dail Eireann, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
Time: 12.30 to 2 PM.

The Waterford Hare Coursing club do not have their own field to hold events. [They currently use a temporary piece of land. ]They therefore are reliant on someone with land to rent or lend for their annual two days enclosed hare coursing event.

Animal welfare groups are calling on Kilflynn Coursing Club in County Kerry to disband, or, if it does not do so voluntarily, that it be compelled to disband by the governing body of live hare coursing in Ireland. The Kilflynn coursing event is scheduled to be the second fixture of the new hare coursing season that begins at the end of this month. read full story / add a comment

Following yesterday's decision by the UK Court of Appeal that the proposed badger cull is legal it is imperative that we all work to try and stop this wildlife tragedy from happening; within a few weeks hundreds of badgers could be shot each night when they come out of their setts looking for food. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19563661

A report released on Monday raises concerns that an animal handler working for Courtney Brothers’ Circus, which has travelled the length and breadth of the country this year, was allowed to bypass EU animal health regulations when importing four Asian elephants currently being used in the circus’ shows. A New report suggests circus animal trainer risked foot and mouth disease by undisclosed elephant import
*Courtney’s Circus was allowed to bypass EU animal health regulations when importing four Asian elephants currently being used in the circus’ shows. The European Commission has confirmed that regulations are in place to prevent the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease.

This month we gladly announce a decline in Greyhound Racing.
Straight from the pages of the infamous online forum ‘Greyhound nuts’ an urgent appeal has gone out for entries to fill races.
There were calls for help last week from both Curraheen Park and Limerick Track as the respective Racing Offices bid to fill the following weekend’s competitions.
