Cork - Calais Refugee Solidarity are going in convoy to France at the end of September for about 1 week to deliver supplies and to help distribute items among the people there. So far they have a 10 tonne truck and approximately 14 cars/vans. This is part of a growing network of people across the country. During the first part of this day-long Thinkery, which will be led by Silvia Federici and George Caffentzis, you will be invited to listen, think and converse with others about anti-capitalist commoning. Based in New York, they are part of an international movement that asserts ‘commons’ can be the seeds of a society beyond state and market. A long-time feminist and anti-globalization activist, teacher and writer, Silvia Federici’s books include Revolution at Point Zero: Housework, Reproduction and Feminist Struggle (2012) and Caliban and the Witch. Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation (2004). Founding member of the Midnight Notes Collective, George Caffentzis’ latest book is In Letters of Blood and Fire: Work, Machines and the Crisis of Capitalism (2013). ANIMAL ABUSE aka BLOODSPORTS WILL HAVE SURVIVED 101 YEARS in Millstreet. The annual Millstreet Hare coursing event set for 3rd/4th Jan 2015 has already caused disgruntled locals to contact ourselves and other direct action Animal rights Groups. This cruel spectacle actually takes place on a GAA pitch in a local public park. The park in the centre of the town, a favourite with locals, dog walkers, footballers etc however is disrupted for four weeks a year and actually has a rusty dump of an enclosure permanently in place to hold the netted hares for the coursing two day event. All this is allowed in a public park such is the power of the Town Park Committee. The opposition to ending this has prompted people to release the hares on many occasions but sadly they get recaptured and coursed, it fails as too many obstacles stop their escape and they are enclosed behind more wire than can be dismantled, until maybe this year if locals do not give up. read full story / add a comment

Radical Routes begin an all-island speaking tour at the end of this month to people to set up their own co-ops. They are presenting this as a way out of both the precarious rental market and the trap of long-term mortgage debt. The tour will draw on their experience where the Radical Routes network has over 35 member co-ops.
