Catherine Nevin’s appeal against her conviction for murder began in the Court of Appeal Monday. Ms Nevin was convicted in 2000 of the murder of her husband Tom at their pub, Jack White's Inn, Brittas Bay, on March 19, 1996. It was alleged that she had tried to hire three men to kill him. The person who fired the gun has never been identified or charged. The appeal will be based on evidence that prosecutors failed to disclose at her original trial that witnesses , William McClean and former provos Gerry Heapes and John Jones,were long-standing police informers . Nevin’s lawyer sought access to classified documents including security files which indicate that Mr McClean was a suspect in the Dublin/Monaghan bombings of 1974. Other new matters are being heard.

Catherine Nevin's conviction shocked many, as she was tried surrounded by a media frenzy, in which she was pilloried for looking too good. All the evidence used to convict her was provided by the three witnesses. read full story / add a comment

A letter sent to a number of Belfast Journalists/Newspapers containing serious allegations against myself and two other Belfast Republicans including, Tony (TC) Catney is printed in full below so that fellow Republicans can read for themselves the level of smears against RNU members of late.

I'm disgusted and deeply hurt by the letter and challenge anyone to produce any evidence they have! I also publically challenge the Author of the letter to show publically anything of an evidenial nature such as, times, dates, places and moneys paid by the RUC. So I and my two comrades can properly challenge these scurrilious allegations.

Until then, I'll make no further comment about these slurs apart from an article being printed in tommorrow's Irish News.

“Are we seeing a test case, to be followed by others in which respected Republicans, who speak out against Stormont, are then threatened with decades old charges? Are the new supergrass laws and wing at Maghaberry part of this strategy? Are the new partnerships and constabulary boards making the constabulary accountable or Sinn Fein accomplices after the fact?” read full story / add a comment

Evidence that America is sponsoring terrorism against the Iranian people has been given by Abdolmalek Rigi who was captured in Iran on Tuesday when a private jet in which he was travelling was forced to land in southern Iran. Rigi revealed he met CIA agents who offered unlimited support to his organisation. He also claims the US Air Force base ‘Manas’ in Kyrgyzstan was used as a transport corridor for terrorists to attack the Iranian Government and people. read full story / add a comment

I have been further arrested on two separate occasions for public expresion of "bollocks" and "blair". Both cases were dropped on the date of trial under somewhat convenient circumstances, the CPS offering no evidence. The first case was dropped the week the Sex Pistols released their 3oth anniversay edition of the album "Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols". The second case was to be attended by Lady mary Warnock, picking up the torch of common sense from Professor Kingsley and QC John Mortimer who valiantly defended our right to use that Saxon Age old word of bollocks.

On the 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. - (UDHR)
I quote Oscar wilde more than all the others; he more than anyone would have appreciated

this charter . It is just that it is not binding .it is not a law. It is aspirational ; but it is

inspirational . You don’t need to read it through. The language is turgid in places. Its meant to

endure . After 60 years the wording may seem esoteric .but if you re read it , ask yourself ;

how else could this be written to relate to all society.
I believe it is written for all the children of the womb of the Universe .
But , I will confess that I quote Oscar not only because he is one of the most quoted people in

the history of English language .

Last month in it's 22ND report, the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) alleged that Concerned Families Against Drugs (CFAD) were, 'a vigilante group who was responsible for a number of punishment shootings and pipe-bombings of suspected Drug Dealers' in the North Belfast area.
Although, we were surprised and dismayed at these unfounded allegations, given that the IMC had not contacted CFAD before issuing its report. CFAD complained to the IMC through our legal representative and were subsequently invited to meet with the IMC today (8/12/09).
