galway / housing / event notice Saturday October 18, 2014 21:14 by Radical Routes
Radical Routes begin an all-island speaking tour at the end of this month to people to set up their own co-ops. They are presenting this as a way out of both the precarious rental market and the trap of long-term mortgage debt. The tour will draw on their experience where the Radical Routes network has over 35 member co-ops. They say that "While the legal and financial structures relevant to setting up a co-op are different in the UK and Ireland, the experience learned from establishing these projects in the UK is valuable to anyone in Ireland considering setting up a co-operative and taking control of their own housing situation." 16:30-17:30, Saturday 1st Nov, Galway Bay Hotel, Galway. -The latter time is to accomodate Water Charges protest. read full story / add a comment

If the industrial salmon cages are permitted to be located in Galway , the sea trout and wild salmon are impaired. Evidence adduced by gargan et al show unequivocal evidence of louse infestation on returning fish ( to spawn) to be attributable to the proximity of returning wild fish . The closer the salmon cages are located to the swim paths of the fish , the more the infestation of lice on the wild fish read full story / add a comment ![]()

The destruction of Kilkieran Bay and Bertraghboy Bay by our state. Nine new cages for Kilkieran Bay and 5or 6 for Bertraghboy Bay in Connemara and more to be added. You could practically walk to them from the shore and this is an SAC and SPA. Again economically supported by Udaras na Gaeltachta and now run by a multinational salmon feed lot operator. Replacing salmon farms that never worked and got huge funding from Udaras na Gaeltachta in the past and this is a SPECIAL AREA OF CONSERVATION. It is a total disgrace. read full story / add a comment

Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/#!/galway.antiwar Or join our group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/312442090965/ The August GAAW Bulletin will be a rather truncated edition as we bring to your attention forthcoming activities by Galway’s local peace group. The U.S. military hub at Shannon airport remains our principal focus. It is through here that Washington ferries its soldiers and its weaponry to kill innocent people in far off lands. This makes us direct accomplices to mass murder. read full story / add a comment |
