The Wesport native, who is also a former Fianna Fail TD, clocked up the first offence on March 28 2011, shortly after taking over from retired judge, John Neilan in District Number Nine. read full story / add a comment

As reported by MayoNews and ShellToSea two week ago...

SHELL E&P Ireland will appear before Dublin Metropolitan District Court on September 5 next over an intense flaring incident at the controversial Corrib refinery on December 31 last, The Mayo News can confirm. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has confirmed it issued a summons to Shell last week after a six-month investigation into what locals described as a ‘frightening’ event. They said it lasted 30 to 40 minutes, lit up the sky and was seen from as far away as Achill and Foxford. The fire from the giant chimney stack was accompanied by a ‘low, loud rumble like a supersonic boom’, according to local witnesses read full story / add a comment

The ongoing disaster that is Salmon farming both here in Ireland and around the world continues to demonstrate this industry is doing huge damage to the wild salmon and is overall destructive of the ecosystem. Not only that farmed salmon are regularly dosed in deadly toxic chemicals in a desperate effort to keep the sea lice parasites and disease under control and in every case they don't keep any control and the diseases just get more resistant. Salmon are simply not evolved to live in cages in extremely close proximity to tens of thousands of other salmon.

In this report, a letter from Ireland Against Salmon Farms outlines the most recent major salmon farm escape from a salmon farm off Clare Island, Co. Mayo. read full story / add a comment

There is 'a plan' for tomorrow, Wed Jan 13th folks at Castlebar
Courthouse - where we hope and intend to (peacefully) place the
spotlight on the outrageous abuses of the law and the Constitution which
are ongoing daily in our so-called 'Courts of Justice!' Amongst the
issues we wish to highlight are: (1) NO more private or secret Courts.
(2) NO more illegal assaults on the public. (3) Registrars and Judges to
abide by the law. (4) Proper sanctions for fraud, perjury and contempt
of Court (by authority figures). (5) Proper action on legitimate
citizen's arrests. (6) Equality for lay litigants. (7) ..and an end to
multiple abuses of our fundamental rights by politically-appointed
Judges and Registrars. TV cameras are expected, so let's make the most
of it! read full story / add a comment

The Mayo Advertiser carried an article on fracking on Aug 22nd. See below.

Mayo needs to wake up to the reality that the controversial method of extracting natural gas from rock — known as fracking — could soon become a major issue in the county.

That is according to two local Sinn Féin representatives who this week urged the public and political representatives to call on the Government to make its position on fracking clear because a number of Mayo townlands in the Swinford and Charlestown areas have long been flagged as possible fracking sites. read full story / add a comment

On Friday the 11th July, people started gathering for the art weekend in which murals and new campaign banner and signs were prepared. Straight away work on the house with the mural “The struggle goes on” was started along with the sign on the roof which reads “Strength in Community”.

Saturday wasn’t suitable for outside work so after a fair while designing what the signs should say, work commenced at a shed which we were kindly given the use of for the weekend. read full story / add a comment
