Release Teresa Treacy Now - Protest at ESB, Stephen's Green, Dublin.

Boycott the ESB - Switch Service Providers - Say it, Mean it, Do it!

Tuesday 4th October 2011, 12pm – 2pm at ESB offices, St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.

Come and show your support for Teresa Treacy and your 'contempt' of the ESB decision to have Teresa Treacy jailed.

Demand that the ESB ask the court to release Teresa Treacy in order that this dispute be settled reasonably.

Meet outside the ESB offices at St Stephen's Green in Dublin beside the ... em ... Anglo Irish Bank HQ (if the irony doesn't kill you) near the Shelbourne Hotel.

The Teresa Treacy Support Group is organising a demonstration of support for Teresa Treacy at the ESB International office in Dublin.

ESB International (or ESBI as it's known) commissioned and planned the Cushaling – Thornsberry 110kV line through Teresa Treacy's land. ESB Networks will construct, manage and operated the line with another operator, Eirgrid. It's a little confusing. The ESB say that their different companies are separate and distinct but, in fact, they are all connected as the ESB Group.

See here: http://www.esb.ie/main/about-esb/esb-group.jsp

Release Teresa Treacy Now

The Teresa Treacy Support Group is calling on the ESB to release Teresa Treacy from jail.

In the same way as the ESB applied to the High Court for Teresa's committal, the ESB are legally entitled to apply to the court for her release. A suspension of the work to allow fair and proper negotiation would be good grounds for her release.

Boycott the ESB - Switch Service Providers - Say it, Mean it, Do it!

The Teresa Treacy Support Group is also calling on supporters to boycott the ESB by switching service providers.

The Commission for Energy Regulation website provides information on alternative electricity suppliers here : http://www.cer.ie/en/electricity-retail-market-licences...e4d34

Supporters of Ms Treacy are being encouraged to email the ESB at service@esbelectricireland.ie with their account numbers to tell them they will be switching providers unless the ESB stop work on Teresa Treacy's land and return to the court immediately to apply for her release from Mountjoy Prison.

In an ironic twist of fate it turns out that the ESB office is located beside the offices of Anglo Irish Bank, whose corrupt practices started the collapse of the Irish economy and the loss of our economic sovereignty.

The Mail online put it this way in this article ( http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2038740 ) - “It is a turn of events that has left her family and many ordinary people across Ireland open-jawed with disbelief. While the bankers, developers and politicians who ruined the country enjoy lives of comfort, a little old lady is sent to prison for trying to stop trees being cut down. Worse still, her jail sentence is indeterminate. Until she agrees to let the ESB chop down her trees, she will stay in prison for ‘contempt of court’.”

Have been following this story since the start and must admit being helpless if not for what I can do through the social network. Today in Ireland to see a woman in jail for protecting the future of our earth for our grand children what should we be asking? So many people doing what they can to support Teresa but how many does it need to really make a difference. I have been trying to use the least amount of electricity I can I only wish I could do without it completely. Thank you to all.

I would have no problem in moving to another energy provider, but we do not have any ethical/morally minded energy providers, unless you are self sufficient. Our political masters support them all giving them grants etc. We have a lot of Airtricity wind turbines beside us & the only way we could stop ESB pylons(one cannot work without the other) coming down across our field in a diagonal line to avoid the hedges etc was to put in planning permission for a house which cost us approx E5k & they crossed a neighbours field instead, ok that sounds like not in my back yard, but neighbours did not have a house in the same field & we could not find anyway to discuss this with either Airtricity or ESB or the Co Council & my planning objection was late by one day, we were told we had 1 month but as the month had 31 days & 1 was a day late with my submission, then I was told that my submission could be attached to a valid submission which was ok with me but the 'valid objector' was bought off with a turbine of his own for which he is paid EXXk pa. I am sure there was another way that the ESB could go, openness & transparency is needed for all these planning applications down to the fine details.

Start a phone ringing (or emailing / letter writing) campaign if you cannot travel up to Dublin to protest or if you cannot go down to Offally to protect Teresa's land and trees. I rang the RTE News office the main switchboard is: 01 20831111 ask to be put through to the News Desk then ask to speak to Ray Burke he is the main editor.. you may get a young man called Rob on the line either.. I rang earlier and he had no news to hand about Teresa Treacy but the famous 'will get back to you' was quoted.. So far none of them at RTE english language service have got back to me.

I also rang Liveline Direct (the Joe Duffy Show) 01 2082984 the young woman there is called Emma and she informed me that if Joe considered the Teresa Treacy case newsworthy he would get back to me - and she pointedly asked me was I a friend of Teresa's. I answered no but do you not want people to take an interest in your news items even if they dont know the people involved? like the Carmelite nun who's statue was stolen? she could not answer that question.. she knew who I was as I have been emailing and ringing previously.. but she did not 'get back' to me either. Ring Ring Ring.. if you cant actually go out there and protest in person its only the cost of a phonecall and if their switchboards get jammed they just 'might' take notice. Also I informed Emma at RTE that I was a TV Licence payer and as such indirectly paying her wages. They also lock up people who dont pay their TV Licences in Mountjoy.

The link below was all I could find as ''latest'' news on RTE .. they are a bit out of date.. National Broadcasting Service that they are.
