Houses but no Homes - An Spréach Banner Drop

category dublin | anti-capitalism | news report author Sunday August 10, 2014 14:47author by An Spréach - An Spréach Report this post to the editors

Today as part of the tactic to highlight the housing crisis in Ireland, members of An Spréach and D8HC carried out a banner drop on Charlemont Street Flats, and Richmond Street.

Speaking after the event An Spréach spokesperson and Charlemont Street resident Tony N, spoke about how his local area is becoming completely gentrified, as residents are displaced to make way for private apartments and office blocks.

“We already went through a failed PPP deal, and now it seems we’re heading that way again. The residents are left in limbo, nobody knows what’s going on, and we’re being told nothing.”

“Many residents have been displaced far and wide due to the ongoing ‘regeneration’ but for what? The final contract hasn’t even being signed yet and they’ve already destroyed three blocks of flats. Many more flats lie empty too and with so many people in need of housing… its madness!”

An Spréach will be holding a protest on the the 30th of August at 1pm, to further highlight the ongoing housing crisis, and would ask you all to join us in protest as we show our disgust towards DCC and the State for the dire conditions many of us are forced to live in, and as we vent our anger at the amount of empty vacant homes left lying idle, while hundreds and thousands remain on the housing waiting list, and while hundreds more sleep rough on the streets
