news report
Tuesday November 05, 2002 18:37 by Nora Geraghty - Globalise Resistance
![]() Around 150 Irish people will be heading to the European Social Forum in Florence over the next couple of days. We will be meeting with activists from all over Europe and the World, to discuss strategies for presenting coherent opposition to Neo-Liberalism, racism and War. We will be running several workshops and attending huge meetings involving hundreds of social movements. The Irish Government will be hosting the EU summit in 2004, so there will be a particular focus amongst the Irish delegates on building a protest movement around that. We expect that the prospect of war will also provide a major focus. It should be noted that Ireland is one of the most unequal societies in the world, and the most unequal in the first world, with the richest 10% 11 times richer than the poorest 10% so it is of vital importance for us to unite with our comrades in other countries, and learn from their experience in dealing with inequalities and injustice, build alliances and work together to make the World a better place. There will be a report back meeting in Liberty Hall on Saturday the 16th November at 4pm. All are welcome. Please pass the word around. |

Jump To Comment: 1if you are looking for 'strategies for presenting coherent opposition to Neo-Liberalism......' A good start would have to have done some work on the Nice referendum! maybe you can make ammends by repudiating the social democrats of pat rabitts labour? Then we may take you a bit more seriously. I hope you learn something a bit more radical from
"attending huge meetings involving hundreds of social movements" but I doubt it
We bloody know "that Ireland is one of the most unequal societies in the world, and the most unequal in the first world, with the richest 10% 11 times richer than the poorest 10%..." This will not change by voting for the rabbit and his labour party, so stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
