They are not actually AFA gigs, though the promoters and Atilla himself are AFA supporters.

AFA isn't getting any money from the events (won't be a whole lot anyway) - though there will be AFA stalls if people want to give us some welcome loot :)

Also the AFA site has just been updated if people want to have a look at the link.

Thanx

Atilla the stockbroker gig is advertised on the AFA site, but not on the giros warzone site, why?. Giros warzone has gone to the dogs, due to mismanagement by hippie dippy wishy washy middle class out of touch arty farty rich kids. Totallly out of touch with both protestant and catholic surrounding working class communities. They host a rave type night on saturday night to cater for anti social e -head joyriders, the offspring of LVF smack dealers, and judge's wayward spoilt daughters and either promote a load of oul kiddies pop punk, blind 182 wannabes, or boring psychedelic death metal oul lads, they haven't had a proper punk/ska gig for years, due to the lack of motivation/interest of those running giros. They dont promote regggae ska or rap, instead they offer their facillities to death metal cock rock star commercial sucess wannabes. But i suppose we must be grateful for what little they offer.

And when things get rough some allegedly anti authortarian wanker always phones the peelers.

In the 1980s the Anarchy centre, in belfast went the same way, run by middle class intellectual shrinking violet hippies, who when the shit hit the fan, decided to phone peelers instead of sort out the situation themselves. When the likes of Johnny adair and his boot boy bullies were intimidating and harrassing punks, the anarchist centre staff, ignored them, preffering instead to leave the peelers to sort out the violence. Which is one of the reasons the Anarchist centre had to close, because of Johnny adair's campaign of violence and spaced out centre staff's unwillingness to challenge adair. The reason giros doesn't play rap, reggae is because they don't want to offend their mainly white middle class judge's daughter customers. They prefer instead to appeal to the arty farty airy fairy vicky cahill, spoilt aryan celtic princesses clientelle.

Wow, that kind of well-researched and brilliantly argued critique is bound to make the Giro's people change their ways. Bloody hell, so dance music is middle class now, but the people who listen to dance are 'e-head anti-social joyriders'. Get a life, for fucks sake. Stop whining that the 80s are over - and if you want to see more ska/reggae/punk gigs DO IT YOURSELF.

Giros was nearly about to close there a while ago and I didn't see any of you fools jumping up to save the place. If you want Giros run better go along and offer to help out and have some imput you whingers. They only do the crap rave stuff coz they need the money. Maybe if the people the centre was intended for were a bit more supportive it would be running better. We dont even have any place in Dublin anywhere as good as Giros.

why doesn't giros move with the times then, noone listens to techno anymore. They are middle class wankers, arty farty airy fairy, out of touch wood nymph types, rich kids just passing time, slumming it in donegall lane, just passing time, waiting for something better to come along, or daddykins to die so they can inherit, no wonder provies keep phoning in bomb scares.

i was going to highlight that, but then i thought fuk it, they're wankers anyway, at least we've still got the front page.

There is enough techno dance venues to cater for kiddies, with better decor and atmosphere and no LVF smack dealers. Noone's into cave chic anymore. Your techno dance customers just think you're cheap.

your musical taste does not define your class. juvenile nonsense. i've never been to giros tho - maybe its shite... maybe its brilliant. i'll have to check it out when i'm in belfast again.

author by girlfriend not in a comapublication date Tue Jan 28, 2003 22:09author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Unfortunately I live in belfast, so the novelty wore off long ago, when you treat working class people like shite, thats what you get back. hence the bomb scares etc. Giros has been treating it's aging working class punk population like shite, like most rich people do, when they welcome you into their homes, their property, watching the silver, in case we nick it. After all these years, there's is no excuse for the cave chic decor unless you're a junkie of course. Even the front page has better respect for its working class clientelle, who have managed despite not being continually preached to, to leave the fixtures and fittings intact.

Provies don't phone in bomb scares lightly you know, you must have had to have done something to cross them. Lets all hope that the atilla gig is the start of a new era, and that giros will regain its sense of direction, and stop pandering to spoilt skater wee kids, spaced out golden beach hippies, cock rock death metal oul lads and tuneless techno student ravers.

Don't let giros put you off, going to atilla, unless you are one of the many oi punks/skins on the barred list. Giros have in the past had the cheek to barr atp members, whilst allowing LVF goth nazis, like Mark and other bikergoth scum, in, just because they have long spiky goth/NOT PUNK hair and wear wood nymph type clothes.

author by ice queen lesliepublication date Tue Jan 28, 2003 23:33author address author phone Report this post to the editors

You're just trying to offload, the mess that youse have made of giros on to someone else, thats why you're only looking input now, when the ships hit the rocks. Instead of listening to warnings from members of the crew all the while. Those that disagree with golden girl leslie and her inner circles delicate social code and refined ways, are not welcome and barred. Giros has strict hierarchial social etiquette. Which means if you're barred, you can fuk off, you have no say, unless you grovel at the feet of leslie, and her very protective male bodyguards. 'have to protect the little lady'.

firstly your talking shite about the centre not having punk / ska gigs, either that or you haven't a clue where punk is at these days.
your dismissal of peopel as antio social drug takers sounds like th espeel of authoritarian terrorist prganisations such as the provos who want nothing more than to lick yup to middle and upper class nationalists and have continually supported the dail in recent years - pricks who have nothing to do with working class reveloution.

You pathetic snivelling little shits, if that's your attitude then fucking get involved and provide an alternative within the centre to what you don't like there. It's not an exclusive little membership club, anyone can get involved. Have a bit of fucking courage if you don't like the run of the place and start trying to influence it in a more diverse way. But you won't do that, will you, because you'd rather whinge on about the tired old class-based clichés. Prove me fucking wrong, you spoilt little fucks.

I don't think any of you has ever seen Giros AFTER a gig or a party - BEFORE these "spoilt arty-farty rich kids" have cleaned the place until 6 in the morning?! Sick all over the place, toilets fucked etc. Some of you just take it for granted that all that's done for you and if Giros people kick out the ones that caused most trouble and deliberately wrecked the place, you call them authoritarian?! What would you like them to say? "Ah, come in and destroy the place completely"? If pubs are so much better, go and try that in a pub. No doubt the bouncers will kick the shit out of you!

Do you think that just because you define yorself as working class that giros owes you something? That just because your a punk & not a goth that your something special? Well maybe your missing the point.

Ask any of the people who´ve actually been involved in Giros over the years (& being involved means more than making bitchy comments from the sidelines) what its all about & you´ll get many different answers. But thats what d.i.y. is all about making it up as it goes along. & if it doesn´t fit your ideas - well we didn´t make any promises.

D.I.Y. means do-it yourself. The reason that Giros have Techno nights is that people who are into it organise it. Ditto death metal, kiddie punk, middle class innnefectual bunny hugging sessions and even the beloved ska & punk gigs happen because people organise it themselves for themselves, the doors are always open to anyone. If Giros hasn´t catered to your tastes, well thats because you didn´t organise it. & if you felt it was too much of a clique for you there´s a big bad world out there to create your own space.

It´s quite sad that with all the above commentary on Giro´s there´s nothing thats come vauguely close to being constructive. Personal snipes from the safety & anonmity of your computer is not big & its not clever.

A lot of people have over a lot of years created something pretty special in Giros, & the future is uncertain. So you can continue to detract & bitch about anyone who actually does something, or you could get of your arse & do it yourself. We´d love to see more people jump onboard. But better still we´d love to see what you can do.
