For those absolutely unable to travel to Dublin on Saturday, a protest/action will be held in Daunt Square in Cork city from 2pm. Bring your own homemade placards or anything that symbolises your opposition to the proposed war on Iraq. We are hoping to have a sound system on the day so that a speak-out can form part of the action.

IRISH ANTI WAR MOVEMENT NGO PEACE ALLIANCE PEACE & NEUTRALITY ALLIANCE International Day of Action - Saturday Feb 15th Asemble 2pm, Parnell Square, Dublin.

The organisers of Saturday's protest in Dublin as part of the International day of Action against War on Iraq expect as many as twenty thousand people from throughout the country to take to the streets.

The March will assemble at 2pm in Parnell Square and begin with a rally including a number of speakers, some poetry reading and songs.

The March will then move through O' Connell St, D'Olier St, College green, Nassau St, Kildare St, to the Department of Foreign Affairs at St Stephen's Green. Here a second rally will take place including further speeches, poerty recitals and songs.

Finally the march will continue around St Stephen's Green, down Dawson St, Nassau St, Suffolk St and onto Dame St for a final rally at the Central Bank Plaza. The rally will again include a number of speeches, songs and musical perfromances.

PARTICIPATING IN THE F15 DEMO
GAAW hopes that all Galway groups will march together. Paraic Breathnach and other volunteers are making things for the protest —a large float for drummers, banners, colourful placards, &c. Because of the large scale of all of this, the organisers have agreed that GAAW and other Galway groups will take a position at the front of the demo. It is hoped that each contingent will bring their own placards, banners, &c. The national organisers have asked also that each bus appoint two march stewards. They will be given their stewards’ t-shirts in Dublin. For those travelling independently, the demonstration will leave Parnell Sq —in the direction of O’Connell Bridge— at 2 pm.

FAMILY GROUPS FEBRUARY 15th
It should be emphasised that Saturday’s demonstration will be absolutely peaceful, and anybody can safely join at any point. BIG ANTI-WAR MEETING IN GALWAY
230 people attended Monday night's public meeting organised by the Galway Alliance Against War. The media presence, both local and national, was substantial. War is not inevitable, was the clear message from platform speakers, Denis Halliday and Michael D. Higgins, both recently returned from Iraq. The speakers gave accounts of their recent visits, advanced convincing arguments concerning the illegality —not to mention the immorality— of the Bush/Blair plans, condemned the craven cowardice of the Irish government, responded to questions, and insisted that if enough of us rally on 15 February, the warmongers might yet be stopped. After the meeting, members of the audience were eager to go on the Dublin march, to assist with banner-making, and to get involved in other ways.

BE A FILM-MAKER FOR A DAY ON 15th FEBRUARY
A number of Galway-based independent film-makers are attempting to organise the production of a visual record which will capture the essence of the 15 February Dublin demonstration. Obviously, a few individuals willl not be able to achieve this by themselves. Instead, it is envisaged that the meaning of the march will be captured and interpreted by those participating. The result should be an authentically democratic record of the day, created by hundreds, if not thousands of people.
We are asking you to bring a camera —an ordinary stills camera, a video camera, a movie camera or whatever— and to record anything you consider moving, poignant, or interesting in any way. Ideally, the record should start before you leave Galway, Tuam, An Spideal, Tuam, or wherever, on Saturday morning. After 15 February, photographs, videos, or other images can be sent to GAAW, c/o 33 Claremont, Galway or to johnliamsheain@eircom.net.
Don’t leave it to the O’Reilly media to tell the story of F15. Let us tell our own story. It is envisaged that any film which results from this initiative will be used to build support for the anti-war movement.

Hi ;-)

Given your name I am taking this posting on face value but let's not get over anxious about Saturday. The Garda are also issued with batons and some of them used batons last May. Others did not. There will be few enough armed _detectives_ at Sat's demo to be fair. Although the police here are becoming less like public servants every day, the most we can expect are a few cops with cameras and a helicopter. Let's not panic, this is a peaceful demonstration of democratic power.

In Belfast, this will the biggest anti-war demonstration the city has ever seen. The last week has seen a flurry of meetings and events taking place around the city.
The Anti-War Coalition who are building Saturday's Rally has amongst its members the N.I. Committee of ICTU who are asking every trade unionist in the North to be on it. Churches in the North are issuing a joint statement this week against the war. The Group Schools Against War have handed out thousands of leaflets in schools and expect hundreds of young people and teachers to be on the march. The Islamic Society of Northern Ireland are urging everyone to be there. A Group University Lecturers Against the War had forty members signed up within two days of its launch. Meetings have taken place this week all over Belfast - including one last Thursday of 130 in the City Centre. Leaflets and Posters advertising the Rally ran out in two days. The Rally is supported by the Women's Coalition, Sinn Fein, the SDLP, and the PUP. It is also supported by Community Groups and Trade Unions all over the North and by people ranging from Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan to the actors from Give My Head Peace.
Everywhere there is a meeting, people agree that they have never seen anything like it.
Nor have people in the Derry Anti-War Coalition who are starting out on Wednesday morning to walk to Belfast. The long trek has been dubbed the Walk Against War and will be arriving into Belfast in time for Saturday's March. Every night the places they are stopping in has organised anti-war events to greet them.
Eager to start early on Saturday, activists in the West of the City have planned a feeder march from their part of the City. Obviously, most people on this site are already convertees to the anti-war cause, and to the broader left-wing cause. What EVERYONE, needs to do, is to try and get their friends and everyone they know to try and come along on Saturday and to try and draw them towards the left (anti-capitalist, anti-globalisation, anit-imperialist etc.) movement in general. I urge everyone to email your friends and everyone you know.

Below is a posting from Mark Hewitt which I just came across a while ago (hope you dont mind me borrowing this Mark!) The text in this I think would be a nice emotional piece to inspire people to get out onto the streets and participate.

But indymedia is full of other articles that should equally be circulated to people we know.

I add again, most people who visit this site are already anti-war and will actively participate in things. One of the keys to success, to both this war and the larger, long-term crises in the world, will be to get "others"\everyone involved:-

Maynooth Anti-War group along with lecturers from the college have organised a 'teach-in' for this Thursday. It will be held in 'The Venue', beside the SU bar on the new campus. There will be some intro speeches, a short video and then a series of workshops and open discussions.

-Thanks very much for attending our public meeting in the Glenroyal Hotel at the end of last month. 80 people in attendance compared very well with other similar public meeting which have taken place across the country in recent weeks, thus expressing the strong anti-war feeling in the North Kildare area.
Just to let you know that we have found it difficult to find another suitable venue to hold another meeting, or to show an anti-war film. There seems to be a dearth of suitable premises to hold meetings, and the Glenroyal Hotel is now out of the questions because their room prices have increased by 50%!!!!in the past two weeks (inflation is reaching Weimer Republic proportions at this stage!!).
So now we are looking for some feedback from you who live in the area. Does anyone have ideas for suitable venues in the Maynooth/Leixlip/ Celbridge or Lucan areas. Preferably not the University in Maynooth because there are problems there getting people along who are not students.
And does anyone have any ideas for anti-war activities we can organise in the area in the next few weeks?????, February 15th is important but that must be just the start of it all.

The idea with putting any more notices about Saturday in here is to stop this from getting lost. There's been a lot of anti-war activity being organised recently, and that's great, but its a bit of a problem for the newswire. If everybody makes their announcements as comments to the existing articles then everything should be much easier to find.
