We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

EU gives Iraq 'last chance' warning

This is it the countdown to war has begun

the people marched on saturday but the politicans have the last laugh, bertie agree with both Bush/Blair and saturdays protesters! a remarkable feat even for a 'flexible' puppet

EU gives Iraq 'last chance' warning

The EU is trying to agree a plan to warn Iraq it faces a "last chance" to disarm peacefully, according to a draft proposal.

The proposal being considered by the leaders of the 15 EU states says force should only be used as a last resort, but UN weapon inspections cannot continue indefinitely.

"Baghdad should have no illusions. The Iraqi regime alone will be responsible for the consequences if it continues to flout the will of the international community," said the proposal.

The proposal gives strong backing for the US and British demand for swift action to disarm Iraq, giving the American military build-up in the Gulf credit for forcing Saddam Hussein to work with UN weapons inspectors.

Meanwhile, Britain and the US are expected to push ahead this week with a new resolution seeking authority to forcefully disarm Saddam Hussein, diplomats say.

Despite fresh threats by France and others to oppose the measure, the resolution will probably be circulated on Wednesday, after two days of open debate.

The diplomats say they expect Security Council negotiations on the draft to be concluded by the time chief weapons inspector Hans Blix delivers his next report on March 1.

Strong arm tactics have prevailed. They have sold out.

It still doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of people in the EU
are opposed to this war.

We must remember the US Admin, after the Gulf War allowed the rebellion against
Saddam to fail, by allowing the Iraqi army to use their helicopters to crush it.
The record of the war-mongers States show they are not interested in the suffering.

It is they who imposed the genocidal sanctions. It is they who used depleted Uranium.
It is they who backed Saddam all through the 80s. It is they who sold him most of his
weapons and sold the technology for his weapons of mass destruction which have long
since being destroyed during the 90s by previous inspection teams.

And it is they who assassinated a democratically elected leader during the late 50s in
Iran, because he dared nationalize the oil and it will be they who will impose a new
puppet in Iraq that is obedient to them. And then they will shut off the media so we do
not see all the dead bodies and at the same time proclaim moral victory.
