The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

offsite link Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

To the Mass Media in the West:

Read and Write made easy.

Journalists Read and Write!

To the Mass Media in the West:
During the Vietnam war the American military used agent orange to disasterous effect, and lots of people believed them in 1991 during the Gulf war when the main media reported that precision war tools were to be employed. What have we all learned.
We cannot continue to allow these military lunatics to wage such brutal war on so many people around the world. It’s time to stop them. It’s a case for the mass media to simply stop supporting these lunatics and stop rehashing their lies. They do not have war equipment that prevents innocent lives or protects peace. Tell it like it is now!
I cannot bear to see the suffering of the people of Iraq continue and I continue to blame the mass media of our world as much as those button pushers in the military machines who send the cruise missiles raining in on Iraqi neighbourhoods. Please wake up and forget your impartial training and corporate interests for the sake of Humanity. Say what you know and feel is true now before more disasters are made possible.

Another letter I found interesting:
Dear Editors:
I would like to see us working in tandem with the intercultural education system that is being implemented throughout our National schools. There is much to be gained through a co-ordinated approach of resistance to suffering in our world.
We must continue to openly resist the status quos; the power sharing alliances of this world who do not do what is in their power to bring a speedy end to the suffering of the people. Peace in our time!
I would like to see the US respond positively to the worlds’ resistance and pull back from all the foreign lands that they interfere with. If the US military will stay in the US and put their US resources to good work then they will regain the respect of those they label terrorists and who label them terrorists.
It takes balls to do the right things in crisis situations but we have to now. The future can be one of sharing and kindness only if we quickly do what we can to reverse confrontations worldwide.
We must put financial economies to the backs of our minds until landmines are removed from the ground. Army generals must unlearn and believe in their own selves’ power to do good that resides in all of us; they must take responsibility for their troops and find a way out for them.
Don’t send one more bomb into anyplace and don’t plant anymore landmines anywhere. SOS in all directions! Use your media to show your good work and we can use our media to show our good work and then all our media will be on the same level.
People don’t want foreign values imposed on them so stop! Turn around and go home. Have we no homes to go to. At home we can learn to share again. The wealthy must share to achieve equality and peace in our time and around our world. We must accept this as truth.
Yes it is time for new government. The opposition parties that have been oppressed to the point of silence must be given the chance to take their turn at managing our future with the support of the well capable civil service.
B.D. Thursday 13th March 03.
Where is our Irish President? A careerist off in the Queen's Australia. Where are the other careerist Irish politicians......... Time for change and people over profit before any more casualties of their wars!!!!!!
