The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Is the era of cheap internet surveys over? A new paper demonstrates that AIs can now be "trivially programmed" to answer online surveys in ways that are essentially indistinguishable from humans.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

SWP/SAW pull back from stupidity

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 19, 2003 16:09author by Horatio Murphy - Insert Random SWP Front Report this post to the editors

The SWP (as "Schools Against War") has cancelled its 4:30 PM Day X rally in Belfast.

It appears that SWP/SAW have now cancelled what would have been an extremely stupid stunt and have fallen in behind the walkouts and 1:30 PM rally called by Youth Against War.

The call for a nice after school rally could only have had the effect of causing confusion and making it more difficult to organise significant strikes and walkouts in Belfast.

This is the second occasion that the SWP/SAW have cancelled similar plans in Belfast, the one area where their schools front exists. They previously had to shelve plans for a 4:30 rally on March 5, the day of the enormous walkouts across the North again called by Youth Against War.

To remind everyone, Youth Against War are organising school student walkouts at 12:30 and rallies at 1:00 across the North. In Belfast the rally will start at 1:30.
