The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

PLANET OF THE APES

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday March 20, 2003 09:31author by T Dillon Report this post to the editors

The Simians Strike Back. See no good Speak no good Hear no good

The Simians strike back, as promised!

Did anyone notice at the Azores war council propaganda show how similar the World Council of 3 looked? I'll be damned if Bush, Blair and Aznar don't look like those apes from planet of the same name as they all lined up in a row like monkeys at the end. They think we are all so dumb (they might just be right) that they stood multiple copies of their own flags behind the podium to give the impression that the world was behind them. Of course like any collection of 3 monkeys each had its own function. “See no good, Aznar”, “speak no good, Blair” and “plain no good, Bush”. If any more evidence were needed, these 3 war criminals are proof positive, that apes are indeed descended from man!

Not really very funny when you consider that the cabal that surrounded Hitler was also composed of sub-humans.

Unite and together one day humanity can overthrow the apes.

Unite is the word.

How?
In what way?

How do you keep the anti-war movement united?

The only option is to begin to change the whole system.

Can the anti-war thousands unite to begin to achieve this?
The war is a symptom of the system. Stopping the war is like attacking one tentacle of an octopus.
You have to go for the main body - the system.
The only way is to unite as many people and groups and organisations as possible, and URGENTLY (to capitalise on anti-war outrage).

Dear depp,
this peace movement is beginning in people's hearts.
People feel the pain, feel the emotions of what is being done to others.
it is beyond political systems and thus beyond control.
I went to the big demonstration in London and my friends were over 70 and absolutely hopping mad, and in their twenties. The atmosphere was amazing: caring loving, walm, and magical (god was watching...)
This movement is something new and wonderful.
It is a bit like the feminist movement :
the private is political.
And with this you can change things- not with systems.
It is a change of mind, a change of heart.
There was a letter in the Irish times not too long ago:
Michael Corry, Consultant psychiatrist in County Wicklow wrote: "I intuitively sense that the anti-war momentum marks a new beginning. Something marvellous is striring in the collective consciousness..." February 24th, 2003
I think he is absolutely right. Put a candle for peace into your window, pray for peace, meet your friends and tell each other how you feel, go together to demonstrations and have some fun - singing, dancing, or going to the pub afterwards...
These are the beginnings. We are beyond systems. We are the world.
Lots of love peace happiness to all of you.
Sigi from London

The delusion, self-obsession and ignorence on show here are beyond surreal. The world is run by presidents, prime ministers and diplomats, not ranting raving flailing children. The fact that you don't like that does not change it, apart from in the la-la land inside your adolescent brains. The war is one and Saddam's days are numbered. Nothing you can do will save him now.

You must be missing your sheep.

Saving Saddam is not important; saving Iraqis is. Even more important is overthrowing the American huns. That may take us hundreds of years, but we'll do it.

Remember what happened to the last Thousand Year Reich.

Note to poor Jason:

Yes there is hope. Remember according to evolution we all crawled out of the swamp and some of us even developped the ability to reason.

Neanderthals are still waging wars and running the war machine but there is hope, if the rest of us refuse to accept it.

If I didn't believe that I would put a gun in my mouth before the apes tracked me down.

What can we do? If you learned your Irish history you know who Captain Boycott was? Say No to everything the US/Israel has to offer. No to Starbucks,Victoria's Secret, no to their dumb movies, no to their musicians, no to grease burgers from Mcdoofs, burn your levis and spit in their colas etc etc etc.

Hit the mammonites where it hurts.

Boycott the beast now!
