The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Fr Iggy O'Donovan - the US connection

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 04, 2003 11:02author by James McKennaauthor email jimmymac61 at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

We're not Rabble - you are!

When we hear "Fr" Iggy O'Donovan slam Peace protestors on RTE we should not forget his pedigree peers for signs of his motivation.

Remember "Fr" Iggy likes to be feted at "GALA" dinners alongside Bertie Aherne and the president of Villanova University , USA.

Berkeley Court Hotel, Dublin, March 26, 2001: "Whirlpool" sponsor the feeding to obesity of a bunch of "allumni" and invited guests. There is our beloved Taoiseach, there is the MD of Whirlpool, and yes, there is our brave Peace Protestor "Fr" Iggy O' Donovan, OSA, BA, HDipEd, STL.

Gary R. Olsen , who is closest to Figgy in the picture has some interesting connections in the US intelligence community, but more of that anon! Quite a few of todays top NSA and FBI heads are "allumni" .......

I wonder if there are any other interesting conections with RTE? Ziggy is listed on the Associate Faculty of All Hallows where "Fr" Bob Collins (RTE TZAR) was educated free by the poor catholics of Dublin before he failed into RTE, like many another priest that jacked it in for a good paying job or an army mans wife!

I'm sure Fr Piggy likes his free dinners with the Taoiseach, RTE and US types? Wouldn't want to jeopardise that now Wiggy , would you?

If there was any "rabble" outside the Dail it was you. The Good Counsel College in New Ross is so lucky to have a man like you to indoctrinate impressionable young men with your brand of theo-politics. Where to next? A nice spot on RTE or FOX TV or maybe even a nice appointment to ataff on Villanova? The bounty is endless for those who spread the right propaganda.

I dont think that members of the Roman Catholic clergy should be allowed to take part in anti-war demos. They are only receiving orders from the Pope to appear radical. Their real agenda is oppression of people and a return to the 1950s. They are attempting to hijack the movement.

What do the Catholic Workers think of their beloved clergy now?
