British TV Comedy Has Lost its Class Sat Nov 22, 2025 17:00 | Finlay McLaren
The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

As bfor labour they will probally be supporting the next war if they are in government with their fine geal bed partners, sepecially if that war has the UN figleaf.
targeting one company or talking about targeting only one and then forgetting to get around to that either? It sounds just like another trot excuse for doing nothing.
An excellent idea. To target one company or product. Hey if we could get Dustin almost voted in as Times man of the century ( before the bastards said he wasn't well known enough ) then surely a few thousand e-mails could be circulated convincing ppl to stop buying something even if just for a short time....

Just don't go to cinemas, fast food restaurants, stay in hotels, go to supermarkets, buy medication, electronic equipment, cars, machines, books, CDs, weapons that might be earning amerikans dollars.
We might as well try to live in a cave like Osama bin Laden on his yank dialysis machine.
A call for a general boycott of Amerikan products is simply not practical. But definitely a specific target, a smart boycott bomb directed at a particularly virulent form of Amerikan global presence could be effective.
Be it Blockbuster or Coke, they can all be targeted at a later date. "This is total war" as Perle and the guys say. Something akin to the wonderful Badgers "occupation and temporary settlement" of breeding grounds in Starbucks emporiums throughout the UK. (Check WWW Boycott Starbucks)
Put your money where your wallet is, as Bono says.
Say no to the ideology of greed.
And I'll have the Baghdad latte machiato with a clusterberry to go!
Anybody know anybody in Syria or Iran or France?
forget the nonsense about it costing jobs, the same cop out arguament was used against shutting down shannon warport and raytheon and other arms companies. I am afraid some jobs will just have to go including those at sellafield. I am aware the sp will howl and scream about 'da werkers' and jobs!
Speaking of boycotts, there is a national Boycott of the advertisers of NBC News here in the US. Now of course, I can not encourage people outside of the US to boycott American products. Apparently it is illegal. However if interested in checking out what we are doing here to protest and educate on just how corporate media in this country have failed to inform the American people on the true reasons for this war, then come on over and visit Twin Cities Indy Media. Look for the story National Boycott Of Corporate Media.
Quite frankly, corporate media has completely lost all credibility with those of us in the social justice and anti-war crowd. Going by even their bullshit "polls" which we know are complete fabrications, us anti-war and social justice types are roughly 30% of the population. And we are disgusted by the yellow dog journalism and cowardly operations of the Pentagon Journalists In Bed With the military.
Watch for further updates. However dont expect to see it on CNN, NBC, CBS or any other corporate media outlet. The experience of Venezuala have not been lost on us "over here".
I haven't smoked a Malboro fag (switched to B & H), or bought a gallon of Esso or Texaco oil (switched to Statoil), or eat any McD hamburgers (which of course I should have done ages ago!)
Everyone has got to do all they can do on the personal level.
But as regards on the collective level, I do not know whats happening.
With it now looking like a quick war, "relatively" few civilian casualites, images of rejoicing Iraqi's, media reports on further Saddam attrocities, the anti-war campaign seemingly losing momentum - I believe a succesful boycott will now be hard to pull off.
Nevertheless it probably is still worth a shot.
Here sa more constructive idea. Why not give the money you would have spent to the Red Cross? Or is that too logical and lacking the self-righteous buzz and glamour of a 'boycott'. If you really wanted to boycott Americian products you could turn you computer of and stop using the internet, which is itself a creation of the Americian military industrial complex.
Did I mention Iraq is free despite all your best efforts? Rock on comrades!
Irish jobs depend on sales of coke and McDs, coke is bottled in Ireland by irish people, WHO are most likely against the war too.
Irish people work in McDonalds, most of them are against the war, they will be the first layed off, the big corporations don't care they will just hit the workers.
HIT Sky News, CNN, NBC... they support the war don't watch them... there advertising money will be reduced!
Hollywood is one of the few places in the US that is against the war, I see little point in hitting them and costing the jobs of ordinary workers.
New York has had lots of arrests which are in these endangered times for democracy and people participation in the public affairs of the State a sure sign of "action".
that was for todays global boycott day.
in BCN where i live there was a big boycott day 26/3 NYC last day was 28/3. Tomorrow there is BCN and Spain a boycott and general strike.
the multinationals have been narrowed down to
BBVA, coca cola, Marlboro and some one else.
probably Mc D.
but you can go on boycotting everything that is tainted by the War machine.
there are lots of people who will help you.
