The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

101 Ways to Stop the War

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday April 09, 2003 21:03author by anita Report this post to the editors

Hundreds of you answered my call for alternative sources online for news and analysis about the war and creative sites dedicated to resistance. One site in particular that several people brought to my attention so inspired me, I wanted to share it with all of you.

It is called "101 Ways to Stop the War," compiled and written by Canadian Guy Dauncey. It includes fantastic, practical, powerful things you can do *right now* to bring the end of this war sooner.

A sample:

"Number 101: Give up the belief that the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Put fear to one side, and replace it with the confidence that we can solve our many problems, if we work together. We are incredibly creative, inventive people. We have to do this. What other option do we have?"

Please keep sending your ideas for web sources for alternative news of the war and the movement to stop it, and keep checking in on my site for news and links!

Although google can be a useful search engine, don't think it gives a politically neutral view of the world. A recent article in the Register (linked below) shows how the google-eye view can be altered by a few influential people, intentionally or otherwise.

any one of the 101 ways would be an improvement for the inactive and ineffectual anti war movement in this country. Wise up sf, swp and the SP you have totally failed with your lip service token protests, Shannon never stopped transporting thousands of murderers to kill in Iraq.
