More than one in 10 French consumers are less likely to buy British as a result of Prime Minister Tony Blair's hardline stance, the poll suggests.
The survey found that 10% of German consumers said they were less likely to buy British - although this was balanced by 7% who said they were more likely. According to Government figures, the UK exported goods worth just over £18bn to France and over £21bn to Germany in 2002. US companies could be hit even harder than those from the UK, according to the survey conducted between April 11 and April 13. A huge 17% of French people surveyed said they were less likely to buy American, balanced by 4% who said they were more likely. Interviews with British consumers found 11% claiming to be less likely to buy American, compared with 4% claiming to be more likely. In Germany, 13% said they were less likely to buy American, against 9% who said they were more likely. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4But when its all over, the French economy will have paid far more dearly than the British, and the British will get contracts to rebuild Iraq to offset their losses.
And 99% of everybody polled while driving to the supermarket to not buy British Beef or driving past rather than through the "drive thru" Mc D's have all forgotten what they are filling their tanks with and 99% couldn't give a flying fuck as compared to 3% who have boycotted eating altogether and the 4.2% who are massively obese and make up for the 16.4% who have just died in the last 2 hours who couldn't be involved in the poll but 3.7% of those gave their next of kin permission to eat their share of fish and chips????????
I'm guessing the original article is from an anti-war source who thinks this is 'good news'. Think again.
You tend to start with economic boycotts and trade sanctions and end in wars. These boycotts are great for allowing the Frence boss to mobilise the French worker against 'Britain' and so allow the British boss to mobilise the British boss 'for Britain'. This is not the road to peace and justice.
I'm not one to hold French vintners and cheese-makers responsible for Chirac, but there is a very angry boycott of French products and companies in the USA, and the indications are it's starting to hurt.
