The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Anti-capitalist movement stronger and deeper than before....another world is possible

Report on activities that Globalise Resistance was involved in. Last night was the meeting of social movements in Geneva...we put out the call for people to come over to the protests and alternative summit at the WEF in October

Report on activities that Globalise Resistance was involved in.

Last night was the meeting of social movements in Geneva...we put out the call for people to come over to the protests and alternative summit at the WEF in October in Dublin..lots of good reaction!

At 10 pm began the fires on the lake... locals from geneva organised bonfires around the lake to show the state of emergency that the g8 are in town and show their opposition to the g8. We went down and joined them..the atmosphere was fantastic. Lots of the locals supporting us..families out walking among the festival against the g8 summit. Big message of weekend..the movement is maturing and we talk to the locals and explain what we are doing and join with their opposition.

5.30 am this morning we marched to the bridges and took part in the blockades, completely peaceful on our brigde but others police tryed to force cars and buses through. Tear gas fired. Message that Annemasse and Lausanne blocades successfull in delaying summit but blocades heavily attacked by police.

The blocades were backed by the social forums and showed the illegitimacy of the g8 and they are not democratic deciding the fate of 6 billion-they are only 8!

Main demonstration began in geneva at 11am..we marched as IRish GR contingent lots of chants against war and corporate greed..contre la guerre..anti war everywwhere! Numbers alot better than expected -around 150,000..not many blocks aside from GR, LCR and Spanish and French anarchist Trade Unions. Mainly individuals against war and corporate globalisation..very radical, international and politicised ..resistance et tous ensemble. The movement is not gone away..we are here to stay and where, like in Geneva where are numbers are strong the police will not attack..our power is in our numbers..we are many..they are few!

Inspirational when at border (which was open with no police or checking of passports i.e. thourgh our force of numbers we got rid of the borders..another world IS possible)between France and Switzerland the march from Geneva met march from Annemasse...so so so so-lidaritè! BRing on the international movement to IReland for october ..o2o!
