offsite link British TV Comedy Has Lost its Class Sat Nov 22, 2025 17:00 | Finlay McLaren
The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Is the era of cheap internet surveys over? A new paper demonstrates that AIs can now be "trivially programmed" to answer online surveys in ways that are essentially indistinguishable from humans.

offsite link Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

The Crown Prosecution Service is appealing against the acquittal of Hamit Coskun, who was convicted of burning the Quran in a protest, reigniting fears Britain could introduce blasphemy laws by the back door.

Bertie 16 Grand Over Limit in Election Expenses

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday June 11, 2003 12:53author by Justin Moran - Sinn Feinauthor email maigh_nuad at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

Brief synopsis of election expenses details

Election Campaign Expenditure

Fianna Fáil 3.57million
Fine Gael 2.34million
Labour 1.10million
PDs 0.598million
SF 0.511million
Greens 0.240million

I will merely point out that despite being 'the richest party ever in the world, stack full of American gold and with endless resources and planes full of American dollars' the fourth biggest party in the Free State was the fifth biggest spender, behind Labour and the PDs.

Smaller parties:
SP: 30,690.27
SWP: 21,925.65
WP: 21,848.09

TDs over the limit: Amount Over
Bertie Ahern 16,222
Seamus Brennan 13,178
Mary Coughlan 36,271
Brian Cowen 10,344
Noel Dempsey 20,107
Frank Fahey 14,138
Tom Kitt 17,637
Charlie McCreevy 10,769
Eamon O’Cuiv 19,336
John O’Donoghue 28,842

I had to limit this to TDs over the limit by more than 10 grand as I would have been typing for ages otherwise. Everyone over the limit was FF or FG
