The state tactic is going to be to whip up a moral panic about violence and the WEF so that they have no holds barred when it comes to beating us off the streets. This standard of journalism already shows that they are willing to write any old thing to demonise the protestors so it's going to be an uphill struggle trying to get any other perspective out their.
Another thing that I noticed in the Sunday papers was that they were pushing the 'luddite' line. The WEF European competitiveness summit is needed to get the European economy back on the rails, to make sure that we all have jobs and can afford nice shiny new cars, these ignorant protestors are wrecking our chances of realising these aspirations....
It's gonna be a long summer/autumn...
go Luddite when the owners suggested the upgrade from old printing technology?
I think this article is fully worthy of a complaint to the Herald. It is full of blatant lies (probably leaked from the cops) and uses the shoddiest journalistic methods I've ever seen.
Complain to the Herald:

Ask for Galen English (journo) or the news editor.
Let them know what you think of their 'journalism'
Anyone got the time to type it on here?
It was the early monday edition which means it was put together on Friday/Sunday.
Can you say "slow news day" I can. Lashed together by some hungover editor. Leave it out.
An excellent study from the Battle of Melbourne-
IMC media operatives to the media barricades!

Since when did the SWP have anything good to say about Indymedia?
GR/SWP are pushing a radical line for the WEF. They're about as radical as the PDs. They'll play up their credentials but when it comes to the crunch they'll play the same game again of good protestor/bad protestor. Watch this space.
And where the fuck were the GR people today when Disco Disco was getting evicted?
Real, what to fuck are you on about?
The herald scare about the WEF has now moved to page 8 (in the late editions). The headline now reads: "Anarchists plan to destroy dublin" - I kid you not. Apparently we are planning to destroy the entire city, but the reason for this still escape me. Funnily enough I don't remember us deciding this - I really have to stop dozing off during meetings.
Does this mean that something is being planned. I am one of the many that know fuck all at the moment of the happinings around the WEF, but aparently theres going to be 4 groups doing different things. Carnival, bloacades ect. 'Rampaging through Temple Bar'?? Yes...because we dont like those blastid hippie shops and cafes....
I was quite suprised to see it in the shop, but realized that this tatic was well expected from the media. I'm pretty sure more shite like this is to come.
I taped a great one off TV3 last night - starts with fat bwoy cantwell in the studio with a picture of riot cops behind him and a big sign saying ANARCHISTS
The report told us that "violent gangs were targetting temple bar (he he - quite and peaceful old temple bar Dublins refined cultural quarter) and the central bank and that "they use the internet" loads of footage of "an anti globalisation event last year" which mainly seemed to be footage of cops battering people in Genoa 2 years ago!
It then had the president of the chamber of comerce giving his highly objective comments and then the gardai who apparently are very unprepared and had " no comment" probabaly to busy trying to find some tabloid to "leak" even worse crap too...
These reports are almost identical to ones issued in advance of summits in every country in Europe - they always have random mention of violence, the interenet and organised gangs - never any evidence never any actual statements from event organisers.......
Since Grass Roots & GR have already called for a blockade of the WEF its only to be expected that the media are going to cream themselves at the prospect of riots & all that, even more convienient that this blockade is on in the morning so all the hacks will have a full day to get their photos of cops bashing protesters and protesters smashing up the place.
Personaly I don't agree with the blockade as I think it plays into the hands of the media, the cops and the WEF as all other debate will be lost amongt the hype. The WEF will not be stopped just by making them miss a cup of tea.
Saying that fair play to anyone with the conviction to put their heads on the line for this.I hope it works out maybe GR will be able to work with the Grass Roots on this and have a unified front (Paddy Power might give good odds on this one!)
