Is the Era of Cheap Internet Surveys Over? Sat Nov 22, 2025 15:00 | Noah Carl
Is the era of cheap internet surveys over? A new paper demonstrates that AIs can now be "trivially programmed" to answer online surveys in ways that are essentially indistinguishable from humans.

Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8It was noted in the Saudi bomb the other day that the people killed were nearly all Arabs and Lebanese.
I really doubt Al-Qaida or indeed any other Muslim group would have intentionally set out to kill fellow Arabs like that.
All the indications, including the advance warnings of threats, were clearly an attempt to up the ratings just before the main action. The finger of blame would point to either USA or Israeli intelligence agents.
This is further backed up with the announcements that 'another bomb like this would topple Saudi Arabia'. This is a very thinly veiled threat. It is likely that the group the threat is intended for, in the Royal Saudi family is the same group who favour doing a deal with the Russians to sell oil in euros. Just a month or so ago, the first high level visit by a Saudi to Moscow took place where they met Putin himself.
This possibly ties in with the fight over the control of Russia's biggest oil firm Yukos. The deal the guy that Putin put in jail was trying to do was to sell a major stake to Chevron, giving the US a major control of this most important asset. Putin at it seems the last minute, moved to block this, although it seems the shares were transferred to Jacob? Rothschild. As a measure of how serious this is, one of the right-wing senators in the USA starting referring to Putin as a communist for the first time.
The multi-ethnic Iraqi Governing Council has done a brilliant job preparing the transition towards democracy in Iraq. There has also been reports that USA is considering to approve the appointment of a temporary Iraqi leader until democratic elections are being held sometime next year.
Ahmad Chalabi is one of the most potential candidates to be nominated for this very responsible task. Mr Chalabi also a member of Iraqi Governing Council. He also represent the majority ethnic group shiahs.
President Bush has promised democracy and freedom for Iraqi people. He said just few days ago that he will also keep this promise. Paul Bremer also said that USA is willing to give power to Iraqi authorities as soon as they are able to bear the responsibility.
Afganistan is a good example on how to stabilize country after war. The constitution has already been made and Loya Jirga (tribal council representing Afghan people) is going to approve it before end of this year. First democratic presidential elections in history of Afghanistan will be held next year.
Iraq and afghanistan are taking their first steps towards democracy and freedom. It will be a long road. There are still many problems with human rights etc, but in the long run the situation will be better.
Thank you indymedia.
what percentage of the vote (approximately, of course) Karzai can expect to get in next years afghan elections, I presume the loya jirga will approve opposition candidates in accordance with the best interests of the afghan oil pipeline industry, so he won't be getting the common 100%.
also do you know how preperations for the free elections are going in the south east of afghanistan, or the south west, or indeed outside kabul generally?
Oh and by the way, when can we expect some opinion poles which will finally show the reality of Chalabis popularity on the ground? The last so called official poll showed him with less than 5%.
I really doubt that Al quieda would target fellow Muslims like that
Why shouldnt they? They will become martyers and be assured paradise.Going by Al quiedas and genearal fanatical muslim logic. The object of terrorism is to terrorise[Lenin].Scare liberal or moderate Muslims into accepting their fundamentlist views. But then Al qieda would consider anyone not of their views to be an infidel anyway.
Or maybe they were just simply idiots who had no clue who or what was in that complex, and were in a rush to get to paradise.
I would say that it is definitely Al Qaeida or at the very least a group that is sponsored by the Base.
Why blow up fellow muslims? Well , lets see, the Base hate the Saudi Royal family so there is enough of a reason to hit Saudi Arabia. They also hate anyone who is not of their specific beliefs, so there is any moderate muslim or anyone who is not completely FUCKING INSANE! The tactics used on both strikes were fundamentally the same. They used a small inconspicuous device to hit people they knew they would get a reaction from. Its not like in Colombia, where if 15 people get killed by one group the majority of the world don't bat and eye. In the middle east a gas explosion at some guys house would cause interest!
As someone has already said, the purpose of terrorism is to terrorise. A terrorist organisation does not really have to worry about upsetting or appeasing many people, either you are with em or you are against.
Will the Base ever truely be defeated. Unlikely. Were the IRA ever truely defeated, No, so in that respect the Base cannot be truely destroyed, but it can be curtailed and proven to be useless
There is no doubt a loose organisation called Al Qaeida exists but when you consider it's origins in Afghanistan and the fact that it was the joint creation of the Pakistan ISI and the CIA, then you have to say to yourself could both of these agencies have been so stupid NOT to have left agents amongst the ranks. The US loves to keep spouting the line that it is not great at human intelligence agents, but great technically. This is bullshit and even if we ignore it, Mossad and I am sure Pakistan ISI are very good at humint and I am sure there is plenty of cooperation amongst themselves.
The great thing about Al Qaeida from any intelligence service point of view is that it is a loose network. So you can have numerous groups who form and then place themselves under it's ideological banner. That means you can set up a deep cover operation, attract very many willing recruits and then just declare you are part of the Al-Qaida organistation.
It's amazing the way the intelligence agencies are always telling us that they have sources or intelligence indicating a strong possibility of attack in the next X days in X place. But then the same brilliant intelligence is unable to do anything to prevent the crimes.
Then we have the strange fact that of all the Muslim terror organisation, like Hamas and others, the most they are up to is exploding a few car bombs and so forth, but somehow we are to believe within this group there was another incredibly able bunch that pulled off 9/11 and without detection I might add. Not only that it seems most of the attackers or at least the 'brains' were recruited within Western countries for example UK & Germany and the rest of the Muslim world contributed virtually nothing.
Quite simply the intelligence agencies of the major powers -USA, UK, Germany, France and possibly others were fully complicit in 9/11 and in these continuing bomb attacks such as the Saudi one, which are so much outside the trajectory of Muslim resistance to imperialism, but are lock step in the fairy tale of 9/11 and the need to maintain the fear.
To this bogus War on Terror, we have to look at the fruits of it and especially of 9/11. These are the ushering in of a global police state. The EU is becoming just as bad as the USA and is only a little way behind. And those who have benefited most is the global corporate elite. Muslims have gained nothing. Instead they have multiple wars and invasions thrust upon them.
We must also remember as declassified in the late 90s, there was a plan back in the 60s that had been signed off by the US Joint Chiefs of Staff for Operation Northwoods, which was a plan to launch a terrorist campaign against US citizens and actually kill some, including bringing that a US liner on it's way to Cuba, all for the pretext of blaming it on Cuba and using it as an excuse to invade.
The media have doggedly avoid any serious investigation of 9/11 and the parrot the party line on all aspects of the War on Terror, including the Saudi case. We are being thrown multiple conspiracies, such as the neo-con Jewish cabal or the Big Oil/Saudi one, but none of these fully explain all the facts on their own. As they say follow the money or at least the benefits and it is clear. There is simply no way that some small group within the establishment could pull this over, without the main part reacting to such a threat to their power.
And as far the rank and file in Al Qaeida, these are just the grunts like in any army that have been recruited off the streets and are cynically used by agents much higher up who knowingly or in some cases possibly unknowingly are under the direction of the intelligence services.
Recall that in the early 1970s, William Colby former head of the CIA went on record as saying:
The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any major significance in the major media."
And that was back in the 70s! At this time it was also estimated that at least 500 journalists in the US were on the CIA payroll. And I doubt they were working for the equivalent of the Tipperary Echo.
