Dublin Social Forum

Minutes of a Meeting held on Thursday October 30 2003 @
7.30pm in the Comhlámh office, Dublin

Attendance:
Mary Kinane, Duncan Crowley, Joe Kelly, Mark Grehan, John
Meehan, Barry Finnegan, Cian O’Callaghan, Mark O’Connor,
Niav Keating, Paul Butler

Apologies:
Apologies were given but unfortunately not recorded

* Nomination of Chair and Minute-Taker

* Finances
E2030 was received through registration (incl. minimum
of E150 as workshop registration. Expenses amounted to
E425 and the remainder of E1605 has been lodged.

E45 needs to be paid out to Richard Doutwaite for travel
expenses and E44 will be paid in as money left over from
photocopying expenses. E235 was made from the
Saturday night fundraiser and this cancels out postering
costs.

It was agreed by the group to contact all groups and
organisations who ran workshops to check if they paid
the donation of E50. Organisations were delegated to
people in the group to follow up. The bank account to
make cheques out to is Permanent TSB, Lr O’Connell St,
sorting code 990 601 and bank account no. 80067116.
Mark O’Connor agreed to check out opening an account
for the Irish Social Forum plus other sources of banking
along with Duncan Crowley.

* Feedback
It was agreed to ask chairs of each plenary and
organisations hosting workshops to submit a 60 word
feedback synopsis. People following up groups for the
workshop registration fee agreed to also ask for the
feedback. Mary will submit feedback from the final
plenary. Niav will also collate feedback from the mini-
disk recordings. Ideas for presenting the ISF feedback
were discussed and it was agreed first to get the
information on e-mail format first and put it on the
website which is being maintained. Duncan also
proposed an ISF feedback wire on Indymedia.

* European Social Forum
It was agreed that DSF working group would facilitate a
ESF feedback meeting Sat Nov 22nd at 1pm in the
Teachers’ Club. John Meehan will book the room,
donations for room hire will be accepted and Barry will
ask Mick O’Reilly and Jean Sommers if they can speak at
it. Ideas around May 1st/9th and the Irish Presidency will
be raised at this meeting.

* Evaluation of sum Each person gave a few comments on how they
felt weekend went. Overall, views were positive and th were also
practical suggestions around how certai aspects could have been
organised differently. These w be added to the information gathered from
the particip evaluations which Paul Butler is compiling.

* A.O.B.
It was agreed to formally thank the Students Union of UCD for
the venue of the ISF Summit. There was also
agreement that the Irish Social Forum is a “talking sh in a
sense in that this is what being a forum means an that particular group
is now the Dublin Social Forum
Working Group.

The next meeting is in the Comhlamh office, Camden St. Thursday
November 13th at 7.30pm.
