Journalist assaulted - threat made to steal camera

The North or Dublin? Armed troops. From The Newswire:
Armed Garda and Army patrol the streets of Dublin, looking for Wombles.
Is Ireland under martial law?
In a blatant attempt to silence the press I was pushed off the street, told to stop filming as my camera was interfering with their equipment. I left when they threatened to take my video camera. The guy with the gun gave me a slap for my troubles.

It is becoming more evident through the new Mc Dowell 'no right to silence Law' , that a more controlling Society is on the way.

The top Article is more relevent now than it ever was.

The Population is psychological 'slow cooked' to accept I.D.cards, bullshit on T.V.( occupational therepy), news of no relevence, Chip and pin , smart tech., micro-chip implants, unconstitutional laws, ultra vires behaviour by the Gardai and Courts service , Land grabs,Home grabs ,farm grabs, jailed for saying no, beaten and jailed for protesting, ruffed up for campaigning , targeted for resisting or asking certain questions, ignored by not so civil civil servants, not noticing the martial law flag with it's gold fringe in the dail and courts, no more being aware of the thousands of street cameras that spy on us every day, the selling of our natural resourses to private enterprise, contracts wasting People's hard earned taxed money that make 'their' buddies millionaires, poison additives in our water (more contracts), erosion of the parents rights and family, robbed by the legal profession mobsters, robbed by the politicial gangesters ,tax on water, tax on air -carbon credits , the list is endless.

The brainwash is so powerful , that most of us have convinced ourselves that we live in a democracy or something. Whatever that is.

Many People will willingly recind their rights for a more 'secure' society. The problem - reaction solution - scenario has worked brilliantly for tyrants for many thousands of years. It is more effective now than ever before.

Our so called Minister for justice , seen wrapped around the war criminal Henry Kissenger in a photograph some years ago , should get out now. Welcome to your 'secure' Orwellian - Mc Dowell society.

to the author who claims that i am the same person who wrote under comments under different aliases you are talking shit,
believe me i wouldnt bother wasting my time. and oh as for mainstream media showing how bomb threats are dealt with? you and your type are great for saying how the media perverts the truth, so isnt it likely that maybe they do not show eveything that is done during bomb threats? maybe they undertand the need to keep certain things out of the public eye?

so stop spouting your shit and fuck off!

I did my bit for Irish tourism & sent them packing. Your words are so brilliant, direct & truthful. Well done!!

Oh what an prick you must be. what the heck kind of comment is that supposed to be.
For interfeering and wasting soldiers time and ultimatley compromising others safety like that I would have personally floored you myself!. Idiot! Protesting and political views is one thing but when something like a bomb scare turns up i'm quite prepare to listen to who's in charge. YA sure it was a hoax, but who the hells gonna know? You gonna waltz on in ands ort it out with you magic-cam? I think we all know the answer there!!

it seems that the author of the slap condemnations is the same person under different names , maybe you were asleep during the troubles in the north perhaps you did not see on television the army and police dealing with bomb scare s, like so many of us did! well here is how it is done , firstly everyone is cleared out of the area then you try to establish the autentisity of the claim .the soldiers have not got aclue what goes on they are just expected to stand arround for hours while the suspect device is ( left to soak )for a couple of hours to see if it goes off all by itself , if it does not then they send in a (Wheelbarrow) remote controled fireing device with a shotgun and video camera attached to detonate the device , after that if there is no big bang ,then some poor sod dressed in a bomb suit desighned to keep the bits together if device do's go off has to take a closer and defuse if possible (critical stage) as seen onTV for years. look the radios that the police and army carry are a bigger RF hazzard than any camera which does not broadcast could ever be, as are the mobile phone masts , The real truth is that soldiers are not that well trained are not that disciplined they are just as scared as the people they are protecting and those responsible for all the unease and tension are the same as they ever where , and they never show their faces and are protected by
Public funds wethr the public likes it or not ,
Get real stop fighting and lets sort it out

It's very strange that who ever filmed this incident just happened to be there when there was a bomb scare...!
Very strange indeed, one would almost think that they themselves planned the whole event by engineering the bomb threat?
Just something to think about, I hope that the authorties are reading these posts, you desered to be questioned about this event!
By the way your still an idot for filming the proceedures of the security services of the state, if I had of seen you I too would have ripped the camera out of your hand and destroyed the film.

will the middle class anarchists with their €2,000 digital cameras whose mothers dropped them into town for the protests in their mercedes cars please stay away from the north side of dublin and go back home to dalkey and revise your study notes for your medical/legal/pharmacey/business and german/occupational therapy or I.T. exams coming up next week. Celtic tiger spoiled brats who spend their daddys money on carlsberg and spray paint, and then march to a place in north dublin in which they will never be again are not welcome by the working class districts of dublin. And you should take your english friends out to kingstown on your way home and use daddys money to put them on the boat to the empire!

Whoever the bloody fool is that is complaining that he was asked to stop filming deserved more than a slap! How stupid can you get, not only could the camera have interfered with equipment, but also by filming and publishing material that shows how the gardai and the army deal with bomb threats, allows idiots who plant bomb to get an inside view on how things are done, and gives them a "leg up" next time they want to plant a bomb and kill innocent people.
i tell ya know if i had been walking past and seen you filming i would have ripped the camera out of your hands and given you a good kicking,
now stop feeling sorry for yourself and get a brain!

The soldier that told you your camera was interfering with the EOD crews equipment was probably acting in what he thought was a correct manner.Bombs can be set off by any number of electronic devices, although most tend to be with some form of radio capicity ie; garage openers, cell phones and the like.If he indeed did strike you this was obviously wrong but it was his duty to keep people back a certain distance and if you refused to cooperate what other action did you leave him?

To the idot who thought it was logical to film the procedures of a bomb squad unit during a bomb scare, are you too stupid to see the logical why you were asked to stop filming the actions of the army and Gardai during a bomb scare! People like you endanger the lives of citizens! How you ask by filming the methods used by the EOD units when dealing with this sort of incident, you should have been arrested for an act like this. You should thank god that you don't live in Turkey or somewhere like that because the likelyhood would have been your immediate arrest and charged with spying.
Now in future use your cop on and do not endanger the lives of our soldiers, citizens and police.
The Defence Forces of this country carry out vital security for the state and conduct many peace keeping missions abroad and I for one like the majority of Irish people are very proud of them. Now grow up!

I'd only let cute boys and girls be Police.
And I'd only let them be police for four years, and encourage them to find other work before they got to used to beating up the wrong guy and not really knowing who does the headline news.

& I'd make a Really Very Neccesary Declaration of the United 25 State European Union Condemning the Illegal Actions of the USA in Iraq, and condemning the Immoral Actions of the USA's proxy The State of Israel.

oh well, live in hope.

Sure I might even go one stage further, and just declare war on the USA and like sort it all out once and for all. And I'd take bets on it before hand.

I agree with Ruari, if a soldier is facing a threat as potentialy dangerous as a bomb scare, he is allowed to seal off that area, even if it means slapping some fool in the face.

Any time I have watched the dealing with a bomb scare on tv, the cameras are kept way back. A bomb scare is code red, I'm sure the soldier is doing his job as a trained soldier, he is dealing with a bomb scare. He probably hit you because of the general tension in the area, and the fact that he is holding a gun and would rather not have to deal with extra burdens.

I hardly think it is because he personally is in on some conspiracy.

I'd like to see full documention of what happened to hear more of your side of the story, but so far you do not sound too credible.

While I don't have too much time for the Gardai, though if they have to use their water cannon this weekend I won't blame. On the other hand, our Defence Forces are probably the state's most diligent and underappreciated services, they are all highly motivated and trained and if I was a soldier called out on an armed bomb scare response and some idiot stuck a camera in my face I wouldn't have the lightest reservation about letting him now. The defence forces were doing their job, they are trained combat professionals. Unfortunately there was nothing professional or admirable about the idiots who perpetuated this hoax.

Might I just make the comment that if even one scare was real and you or any of your family were injured or maimed by the blast, you would bemoan the lack of preparation and resources to deal with real terrorist threats and the govt's unwillingness to take defence and security seriously. I'm not supporting the actions of a yobbo soldier acting the hard man with you but it's fierce easy to blow hot and cold when things change.
