Maize Dreams-13 moons amongst the Maya

A SERIES of talks and a photo exhibition inspired by two womens¹ travels in
Central America are coming to Limerick.
The nationwide revolution roadshow tour comes to one of the city¹s newest
venues on Thursday June 17.

The two talks entitled Maize Dreams 13 Moons Amongst the Maya aim to provide
an insight into the political situation in Guatemala, Chiapas Mexico and
Nicaragua.
Corkwoman Brenda Kelleher and Spaniard Maria Jose Torres will deliver two
thought-provoking, inspiring and informative talks.
The roadshow includes a photographic and slide show exhibition open to the
public from 1.00 to 5.00 on June 17.
It is all happening at Impact theatre company¹s new venue at Basement 18 in
the Crescent, O¹Connell Avenue.(on your right going up O’Connell Avenue from town before the Jesuits Church).
The illustrated talks detail the womens¹ experiences of a year and a half,
working as volunteers, living and travelling in Central America.
They have already brought their acclaimed roadshow to Galway, Belfast and
Cork.
Anyone with any interest in Central America, its history or its culture
will enjoy the stimulating talks.
The two women worked as human rights observers for the Zapatistas community
in Mexico and on womens¹ education projects in Guatemala.
The issue of the Zapatistas, who are oppressed by the Mexican army and Nicaragua’s revolution in progress are just two of the topics that will be dealt with on the night.
The first talk Women of Central America will be held at 7.30 and the second
one Voices of a Revolution will be held at 9.00 on June 17.
There will also be Guatemalan crafts, clothes and gifts for sale. Admission
is free.
