An Imam (author of a book which advised the faithful on how to punish their wives) has been released

the court intend to find a suitable way to "punish the errors of the pen".

Barcelona's high court has released on various conditions, an Imam who was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment in November for inciting gender violence. It was the first prosecution under a law passed by the Tripartite.

Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, who held the position of Imam in Fengirola in Catalonia, had been sentanced on November 29 to one year and three months imprisonment after the public outcry which resulted from the publication of his book "La mujer en el Islam" (the woman in Islam) in which he justified abuse of women and gave instructions on punishment and castigation of one's wife which would leave no trace.

(common torture techniques highlighted annually by Amnesty International).

The High court is releasing him on condition that he study the Spanish Constitution, and international law with emphasis on the International Declaration of Human Rights for a period of at least six months.

The Court commented that his continued incarceration would not assist his integration in wider society, or the integration or normalisation of his community and congregation and of their acceptance of the values of Barcelona.

It is widely believed in Barcelona that gender violence, torture and all types of nastyness can be stopped. It is also widely believed that the proximity to culturally incongrous use of modern technology, and images of "occidental sexuality" might have ontributed to the "clash of civilisation" between fundamentalist American Christians and fundamentalist Islam, and like the oil just got in between the two.
It it is thus worth noting the case of "indian teenage felatio" which has caused such an uproar amongst the nationalist and jingoist right of the subcontinent who we remember rejected Sonja Ghandi on the grounds she was an italian.
We somehow feel that making yet more enemies from hot countries who accuse us of covorting with the Great Satan is not a terribly good idea, and makes the security of our society's more difficult.
