The Rachel Corrie Rebuilding Campaign in Gaza has been nominated for a GlobalGiving.com competition.

http://www.globalgiving.com/cb/gpf/...0/proj929a.html

People throughout the world can vote online and rate the entries they deem best. The Gaza project is one of only two in the Human Rights category. 15 semifinalists chosen through open ratings will present their work at the Global Philanthropy Forum on Borderless Giving in March, where three winners will share $100,000 in project grants.

The Rachel Corrie Rebuilding Campaign, a project of The Rebuilding Alliance, starts by building for the Nasrallahs, the family that Rachel Corrie stood to safeguard when she was killed by the Caterpillar D9R bulldozer sent to demolish their home.

Rachel's parents, Cindy and Craig Corrie, are on the board of directors of The Rebuilding Alliance. Cindy said of this Campaign, "We are rebuilding for this family to bring attention to the human tragedy that the Israeli occupation has caused in Gaza and to challenge it. We must keep rebuilding in Gaza to bring light to this place and to say 'no' to the outrageous assault on human rights that continues there -- conducted by the Israeli government and supported by U.S. tax dollars"

<copyourselfon>Who is Rachel Corrie to interfere in the running of a democratic state like Israel? Isn't there enough stuff to protest about in America? You don't see Israelis picketing the organic farms in Berkeley becuse their owners use slave labor in the form of underpaid Latinos. Blow it out your ass, San Francisco Gay Buardian.

Abbas orders to demolish illegal buildings on public land

GAZA, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has issued orders to demolish illegal buildings on public land, Palestinian official sources said on Tuesday.

The sources said bulldozers started on Monday night to raze buildings illegally built by Palestinians on public land and the demolishment will last for a few days.

Meanwhile, Mussa Elaian, senior Palestinian security officer, said, "Abbas issued clear orders to remove and demolish illegal buildings that were built on public land."

He said Palestinian workers accompanied by at least 200 policemen have already started to demolish illegal buildings.

Hundreds of buildings erected without permits will be razed in the coming days and their owners have all received advance notices, he said.

Elaian stressed that transgressions of public land has hindered the implementation of law, saying "We are now beginning a new era in which law must be respected and all government lands returned."

The Palestinian National Authority is beefing up efforts to enforce order and law in the Palestinian territories and some 3,000 security troops were deployed across northern Gaza Strip last Tuesday to curb violence against Israel. Enditem
