Jump To Comment: 1good video to watch - 14 minutes. The vast majority of drinking water is used by developed nations, and not one can say it uses water wisely. Set against the struggle for indiginous communities to control their lives, this video looks at the Zapatistas in mexico as they build their own water systems.

There are over one billion people in Asia without access to safe or treated water.
A new site has been launched by the World Water Council
http://www.worldwatercouncil.org/ and the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development have come together to develop the "Water Monitoring Alliance" website, a platform bringing together organisations involved in the collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination of information on water in all its uses.

We don't really need large scale state actions to help communities without water have water, and that's why together with these institutions which form a good basis for research material on the water issue, I really recommend the movie
"la Lucha del Agua" Water & Autonomy. You can get it through chiapas video distribution. & it has subtitles. also this one is worth looking at.
A history of the search for drinking water-
http://watervideo.com/
Water is not just a source of conflict in India, in South America and Africa as well, the needs and rights of communities to drinking and santitation water are undermined by the requirement of multi-national-corporations for water in industrial processes and most sickeningly of all, bottling fizzy drinks to sell to those who can afford them.
But thats the real thing.
