Clare - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Shell out of Mayo, Public Meeting, Ennis, Co Clare.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Monday 4th July 8pm, Upstairs, Brandons Pub, O’Connell St, Ennis, Co Clare. Shell International with the cooperation of the Irish Government, the Courts and the Judicial System are attempting to bully the people of Rossport, Co Mayo off their land, ignoring their rights and wishes, and having little or no regard for safety regulations, planning law and environmental concerns. This, in an effort to build an extremely dangerous pipeline close to their houses, to extract gas and oil from the Corrib Gas field, once a national asset but now the property of private multinationals, thanks to an extraordinary deal done with ex -minister Ray Burke, since convicted and sent to prison for corruption. Come to Brandons next Monday night at 8pm where you will meet and hear people from the community of Rossport tell it like it is. |

I first approached this website to try and inform myself about what appeared to be something I was concerned about. However having researched the matter in more detail, I find that most of the contributors to this site are either deliberately feeding dubious and incorrect information and scaring decent people or have just been fed a line and just swallowed it whole!.
People have a right to be concerned about an issue like this but you do not do any service to the ordinary citizen by misinforming and ranting about all and sundry to do with this company. After reading the ill informed opinion here I have satisfied myself that you are all guilty of exactly what you accuse your opponents of – deceit. Shame
have a choice and are paid for level of risk involved. These residents are not paid for level of risk nor do they have a choice according to irish courts / shell.
Pipelines at lower pressures as documented elsewhere here have a tendency to blow up and kill people without the aid of impacts with heavy machinery.
Your post is propaganda and lousy propaganda at that.
If it is done at sea what about those that have to work at there.
Surely the risk and safety fears are much higher in the middle of the North Atlantic than is the case with the gas being brought ashore?
Think of the storms in a historically wild stretch of ocean. Also a platform will have to be supplied and re-supplied by helicopter- surely there is greater risk here than a JCB hitting a clearly defined pipeline that is buried far underground.
Nobody is saying stop getting gas out - they are saying 1) Do it at sea 2) think about renegotiating deal with shell etc as it was negotiated by a known and proven corrupt politician and criminal (ray burke) and leaves ireland with virtually nada.
By your reasoning all natural petrochemicals belong by right to oil companies. That is irrational even though that argument may suit same oil companies.
In what way was the Corrib gas field 'once a national asset' before the arrival of Shell? No one was even aware of its existence prior to it being discovered at great expense by Shell. Multi-national oil companies have spent billions upon billions in the past 30 years exploring Irish waters. So far they've found very little. If this exploration had been undertaken by the Irish Government and financed by the taxpayer, as leftists have constantly demanded, then Ireland would be bankrupt by now. Your cunning plan for offshore development seems to be that multi-national companies should bear all the expense of exploration but that, in the rare event of them actually discovering something worth developing, they should be prevented from doing so. You must think oil companies are suckers. If Shell is prevented from developing its discovery in Corrib, you can say goodbye to any commercial development of Ireland's offshore oil and gas. The oil companies will quite sensibly simply walk away and explore somewhere else. And don't think some ridiculous Irish taxpayer-financed publicly-owned exploration company could take their place.
Public Meeting, Mon 4th July 8pm upstairs Brandon’s Pub, O’Connell St Ennis.
Speakers and topics include:
Tim Hourigan:
Analysis of how the Government gave away our national asset, the Corrib Gas field, to Private Multinationals
Andrew St Ledger, P.R.O. The Woodland League:
Analysis of how semi-state body, Coillte, entrusted with public land for forestry purposes, are selling it to Private Multinationals and developers.
Maura Harrington, Spokesperson, Shell to Sea:
In depth presentation of the facts with regard to with what’s been happening in Erris and how the Government and the Judicial System have facilitated Shell in attempts to bully the local people off their land, ignoring their rights and wishes, and having little or no regard for safety regulations, planning law and environmental concerns.
Statement from the Rossport 5 on behalf of their families and community outlining how 'Justice for the Rossport 5' means more than just their immediate release from prison.
Followed by questions and discussion with a view to establishing a Clare group to support the Shell to Sea campaign.
Maura Harrington is available to take questions from press and media from 7.30 - 8.00pm before the meeting. Press and media welcome to stay throughout the meeting.
Sounds like Habeas Corpus has been suspended just like in the good old days under British Imperial Rule.
The honourable judge can probably expect to be rewarded with a title from the Anglo-Dutch oligarchy that control Shell.
The Government is sure to give its approval as required under Art. 42.2.2 of the Constitution.
(Note to censors: this is just heavy sarcasm not an incitement to sedition).
... it's cos he's been put in jail by a court acting 'ultra vires' i.e. outside of it's power, because it has yet to hear all the facts. Oral Hearing set for October, meanwhile the court and the Government sides with Shell a private company, against it's own citizens.... makes you proud doesn't it!
Come to Brandons and together we'll figure out a way, along with the people of Rossport and others around the country TO CHANGE THIS.
