George Bush is not evil

category wicklow | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Sunday August 07, 2005 19:29author by Barraauthor email aranu21 at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

..................

George Bush is not evil

“But there would quite rightly be outrage if every Christian became a terrorist suspect because of the actions of George Bush. Yet this is happening to the Muslim community”

This is a quote out of the current issue of the S.W.P newspaper. First of all this is not a cheap attack on the S.W.P or any individual associated with it.

Television and most recently the Internet have led an incalculable effect on us. People are generally less able to assimilate complex ideas. In the busy global village, where information spews from every electronic orifice we need to have our ideas pre-digested for us then vomited out in bite size chunks. Instead of having a good overall view of our communities we have a selection of decontextualised fragments form pre-chosen sources all over the planet. The lives, loves, history and desires of millions, summed up in a paragraph or three by people who do not even know them. A few snippets of semi-random info does not constitute a planetary perspective.

Statements like “the action of George Bush” are false and misguiding. George Bush has no real control over the direction of the government/ organisation. That is determined by the survival needs of the organisation itself. The power he wields is not his own. The reality is that the organisation he is enslaved to have needs, and the view of the individual is irrelevant. If people are to begin the journey to radicalise they must be given they information to dissect the workings of the complex systems of control. How can one fight a grater opponent if one does not know its strengths and weaknesses?

George Bush is not evil, because of his social conditioning he does not question what he is saying. He is not terrorist no. 1 as Bin laden is not terrorist no. 1. Just a misguided narrow minded idiot whose speeches inspire ignorance, violence, patriotism ( glorified tribalism) etc…..

One of the few weapons the alternative press have is there integrity. We must be vigilant of this all the time and not let ourselves to be tricked in to comprising the truth, not to take advantage of winning a cheap victory by compromising this. People can not lose sight of the full view of reality and truth without compromising social and environmental justice.

We live in a complicated world. How can we support the right of workers when we are opposed to the place they work in, the materials they use, and the end product of there labour and not to mention wage slavery itself. How can we balance the long-term protection of humans and the environment.

As with the issue of Bush the only way to find a solution is by not looking at the equation in black and white, this only creates an abstract overview of the problem but by rational analysis proven by fact not comfortable assumptions.

Think about all those men out there, in their uniforms, barking and swallowing orders,
Inflicting their petty rule over the entire globe.
Think of all the harm they’ve done! To you! To me! To humanity!
Then know this:
That we can make them and their flags and their anthems and governments
Disappear in a flash. You and me….

You will be reborn a hero that walked the earth long before the pale religions
Of civilization infected humanity’s soul

- David Banner

REFUSE! RESIST!

Your point is valid but from what i can see it has no relevance to the quote you provided.

Perhpas you should focus less on the others' pathologisation of Mr Bush and more your own obscurantism.

Barra, have you ever heard the expression give the devil his due? mistake number 1 is to assume that anybody you disagree with is less intelligent than you or that they would change their ways if only they knew.

If you can see the wood for the trees in all the media we are fed why do you assume that other people cannot? If you want to be for the people don't assume that a) they are victims or b) they are stupid. Your patronising attitude gets you nowhere.

might I also suggest that you take on one problem at a time. Capitalism and World Terrorism are fairly big to cover in one diatribe. Lastly - where's your point? Any solutions to the mess that is (and always has been) the world?

We can all be idealists but being an idealist assumes that you have an idea. How would you reccommend we resist?
