Daily Express: Cancer Link To Sweetener

category national | consumer issues | other press author Thursday December 15, 2005 15:40author by Terry Report this post to the editors

After many years it seems the corporate press have decided to pick up on this story.

The artificial sweetener Aspartame which has been around for 20 years and is used in thousands of food products is a well known toxic chemical and amongst many effects is a known carcinogen

Dail Express Headlines: Cancer Link To Sweetener

Today possibly for the first time the corporate press has carried this story. The Daily Express newspaper -a corporate newspaper and part of the corporate media which is a bastion of the propaganda machinery capitalism has the story on their front page as shown in the image.

It is not clear why the Daily Express would be carrying this story as it could financially impact their capitalist cronies, but an interesting possibility is that the Patent which ran out relatively recently means the potential to earn a large profit is gone and it's time to promote a new patented sweetener and this would be the ideal time to shift consumers onto the latest deadly product.

You can find this sweetener -aspartame in most 'diet'products. Pick up any can or plastic bottle of diet-Coke, diet-Fanta, diet-7up, practically any chewing gum, soft drinks for kids like Ribena and it's look-alikes. Check any diet-Yougart or any of those reduced sugar products like a tin of beans, corn, peas. You name it, Aspartame is everywhere. It's particulary insideous that 100,000s of parents give their kids soft drinks with this stuff in it and are completely unaware of it. Who knows what effects and harm it is having on them. The corporate press have done an excellent job of hiding these facts from them for the past 20 years.

In the September 2005 issue of the Ecologist magazine a special feature on the dangers of Aspartame was carried and there was a huge response from its reader. It may be this latest episode that the newspaper has picked up.

Information about the harmful effects has been available for quite a long time on the Internet in sites like: www.dorway.com and articles like: The Bitter Truth About Artifical Sweeteners
http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/aspartame.html

Here's a quote from it:

"Aspartame sugar substitutes cause worrying symptoms from memory loss to brain tumours. But despite US FDA approval as a 'safe' food additive, aspartame is one of the most dangerous substances ever to be foisted upon an unsuspecting public."

This issue has been reported before on Indymedia.ie

Congratulations for writting this piece and your insights we would agree with.
We have tried to get information into the UK press for YEARS, with little success, it would therefore seem there is an agenda at foot here. Move the sheeple onto other poison(s)!'

In case you are not ware, Namaste Magazine in the UK is the only UK magzine to regularly print articles on aspartame and has been doing so since 1998.

The UK Parliamentarian Roger Williams has called for a ban on an artificial sweetener aspartame, which is used in the production of 6,000 types of medicines, food and drinks. He said that there was definite evidence that the sweetener, which is used in cereal, chocolate and cola, may cause cancer.
