Well thats not going to improve any time soon if so many young Poles keep leaving Poland.
With regard to Ireland, who cares if the state recognises gay unions or not? You only reinforce the idea of centralisation by fight for the introduction of laws. Gays and those who support them should work to promote their beliefs at a local level and forget about what the Dail thinks or does. There is a lot of homophobia where I live but there arn't any openly gay people here to change it. Even if laws were changed, people here will still be homophobic. At the end of the day this is simply ignorance and ignorance is best over come by intelligent debate between people who respect each other.
Drag Queen Vladimir Luxuria is standing for the Rifondazione Communista Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Italy. Lets hope she wins!
"Public gestures of affection of the most innocent kind between a man and a woman, such as holding hands, can upset Sasha, a young gay man from Siberia. Gay Moscow has been keeping its rainbow flags indoors They hurt him because much of Russian society rejects the right of he and his boyfriend to do the same. However, if a bid to hold Russia's first Gay Pride parade pays off, Sasha and thousands of other gay men and women will take their sexual orientation to the streets of Moscow on 27 May."

Hi Ya
I thought this would be a good place to post Human Rights Watch info on Poland. Just being allowed live if you're LGBT is difficult there. Getting married will take a while longer! Just goes to show Catholic Fundamentalism can be as bad as Islamic Fundamentalism.
I hope the meeting goes well.

Poland: Official Homophobia Threatens Human Rights
(New York) – As a new government in Poland brings to power officials with long records of opposing gay and lesbian rights, it is more important than ever for the country’s leadership to affirm all citizens’ equality, Human Rights Watch said today in a letter to Polish President Lech Kaczynski.
On January 18 the European Parliament, motivated by rising homophobia in Poland and other eastern European states, overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling on all EU member countries “firmly to condemn homophobic hate speech or incitement to hatred and violence.”
“As mayor of Warsaw, President Kaczynski opposed the right of LGBT people to basic freedoms and equal respect,” said Scott Long, director of the LGBT Rights Program at Human Rights Watch. “As president, he will determine whether Poland protects rights or chips away at them. Europe is waiting for the answer.” "
