Level of Opposition to Loyalist March Underestimated

category national | miscellaneous | press release author Saturday February 25, 2006 18:11author by Des Dalton. - Vice President. - Republican Sinn Féinauthor email saoirse at iol dot ie Report this post to the editors

Statement by Republican Sinn Féin Vice-President Des Dalton

Statement by Republican Sinn Féin Vice-President Des Dalton – February 25th on riots in Dublin

The scenes witnessed in Dublin today only serve to illustrate how out of touch the 26-County political establishment was with the depth of opposition to the routing of a loyalist march through Dublin.

Indeed 26-County Justice Minister Michael McDowell's willingness to meet with the organisers of this march while at the same time refusing to meet with the relatives of those killed in the British-directed loyalist Dublin and Monaghan bombs or the relatives of the Stardust tragedy, only serves to further highlight the gulf that exists between the 26-County political establishment and the views of ordinary Irish people.

The people of Dublin have shown their rejection of the ideology of sectarian hatred and bigotry represented by those who organised this march. The routing of such a march through Dublin was a completely irresponsible act with scant thought given to the consequences or the dangers it posed to people.

ENDS.

This is the typical vomit to be expected from RSF.

RSF are going to have a few difficult days and weeks ahead.

Republican Sinn Féin's dream of a United and Federal Ireland is this evening even more pie in the sky than it was this morning.

RSF have been hyping this parade up since it was first mooted last December.

They knew what the consequences of this would be and they are responsible for the disgraceful scenes around the city.

FAIR is a loyalist front organisation. It's leader is pally with known loyalist paramilitaries. They are selective in remembering the victims of the Troubles and gloat over some of the atrocities committed against innocent nationalists.

However, they should have been let march. The RSF counter-protest brought the scum of Dublin out onto the streets today and what a propaganda victory they've provided for the likes of FAIR. And what a hot marching season it's going to be up the North.

Ruairí Ó Brádaigh and RSF/CIRA - you've done nothing for a United Ireland and today proves that. You've been unable to kill a member of the Crown Forces, enjoy no support in the North, and no support down South. Today's counterprotest was an attempt to raise your miserable profile. Well, you've done nothing apart from making yourselves the political wing of drunken Celtic-jersey wearing bonehead scum.

Do you really think RSF are able to muster 500 kids out into the streets of Dublin? RSF held a peaceful protest.. The blame lay with the politicians who gave this rightly controversial and unwanted parade their go ahead.

FAIR is a loyalist front group. But they are not fascists. they have a right to march. Anyone involved in today's thuggary deserve condemnation.

RSF/CIRA are a sectarian and bigoted organisation that want a united Ireland based on the suppression of working class protestants. They are a pro-capitalistist party- they praise capitalist xenophobic Denmark on thier website!

The stupid actions of RSF may well invite state oppression on them. There's a fair chance that many of their members will be arrested, charged and convicted for their "sacrifice" of themselves on O'connell st. Idiots.

Most of the people who were rioting now didn't look like they take much interest in politics.

When did Sinn Fein republican or otherwise, ever pay any heed to the political process anyway?

Just thinking...If SF say that these actions are the actions of Republican Sinn Fein, does that mean that Sinn Feinn are not republican? I'm confused.

those rioting would ve been there even if RSF didnt exist! it was loveulster and the state's buffoonery which brought those kids out onto the streets, not RSF.

I'm British and can't believe your government allowed the parade - unless there was a hidden agenda somewhere!

It was a bit like allowing a Republican march up the Shankill Road!

No, it would be a bit like allowing a Republican march through Trafalgar square. Just because you don't like the group that's marching doesn't mean you shoud riot and cause mayhem to stop it.

This was an opportunity to show Protestants in the North that their traditions would be respected if there was ever a United Ireland. Does anyone want to hazard a guess at what they think now???

Idiots!

What tradition exactly was not accomodated by the spontaneous peoples uprising yesterday? The "tradition" to bus hundreds of supporters of a blatantly sectarian march into a city where the vast majority of people would be at best unsypmathetic to their "cause" seems very new to me.

Anyone who thinks that loyalists in the 6 counties now have less sympathy for a united Ireland because of yesterday is either dishonest or extremely naive or just a plain idiot.

How many people were brought down to Dublin yesterday?
I very much doubt if the numbers were in the hundreds!
The tradition that was not respected yesterday or even tolerated was the one that a million people on this island prescribe to, the fact that the people were not allowed to gather in their "supposed future Capital" sends a very disturbing message to the people of the six counties!

I see loyalist bandsmen returning from their attempted march celebrated their traditions in the usual way by launching attacks on Catholic taxi divers in Portadown Saturday night . (Daily Ireland 28/2).

Re. numbers -there were 8 buses down, so that'd make c. 400 which would correspond with the number visible on Patrnell Square. Frazier is now lying by playing down the numbers to 100 or so -he was claiming he would bring thousands down in January.

Those of you disgusted by the actions of those opposed to the loyalist march in Dublin, peaceful or otherwise should be ashamed of yourselves.

As loyalists murdered and marched their way down the Garvaghy Road in the mid-nineties, ethnically cleansed parts of North Belfast 1999-2003 and then moved on to making parts of Antrim and Down no taig zones last year, the voices of reason in the 26 counties were so quiet, why are they so loud now?

The simple fact is that loyalists are thugs and bigots who could not stand up for their right to hate, when confronted with the truth about their history. In the past they have happily assassinated republicans, trade unionists and nationalists, opposed to their rewritten version of history. They have destroyed any opposition to their criminality in their own communities. They have shot their own when ever there has been a fall out over their criminal proceeds

And as Raymond McCord will show, they are probably the only criminals in western europe with contacts and paymasters in the local police and the British security services.

If they march again they will and should be confronted. Keep the bigots off our streets. Ireland Unfree Shall Never Be At Peace.

Re: gay geori

If you knew your history, you will know that the 'women and cripples'who wanted to march down O'Connell street are more similar to the fascists, that you quote.

Fascist a right wing, pro-state organisation. Used by big business to stifle worker's organisations.

As these individuals were all pro-British crown forces, pro the intimidation and assasination of those in opposition to the aparthied / racist / sectarian state that is n.ireland.

Opposing bigotory and sectarianism does not make you a fascist. Make N.Ireland History.
