Bird Flu

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Wednesday May 03, 2006 04:07author by Mikaelaauthor email mikaela.landstrom at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Are we a bunch of idiots?

I don't know how the government in all the different countries that we find ourselves in are acting when it comes to the Bird Flu, but I am sure that the situation here in Aotearoa (New Zealand) is in no way original. There was a mass send out of material a few months ago to all households on the both islands. In this material one would find information about the pandemic and how to protect oneself and one's family. There are regular announcements in the media regarding the flu, its symptoms, vaccinations, etc. I have no idea of how much this campaign is costing the people of this country. A campaign which as far as I can see is only creating more fear in a time when that is the last thing we need. Fair enough, if the Bird Flu was a pandemic, then it might be worth the effort. At this stage though there is no need to be afraid. And please, feel free to contradict me on this, educate me and enlighten me!

Here are some facts about the Bird Flu. Some I have, and others that I haven't, seen in the campaign I mentioned in the introduction.

* The Bird Flu - HN5I - was discovered in Vietnam 9 years ago.
* Since then 105 people have died. (According to WHO in March 2006)
* TAMIFLU barely alleviates the symptoms of the common flu.
* Two people infected by the virus in Vietnam died even though the received the TAMIFLU vaccine. (New England Journal of Medicine)
* The efficiency of the vaccine is being questioned by a great part of the scientific community.
* ROCHE LABORATORIES are marketing TAMIFLU.
* The patent for TAMIFLU is owned by GILEAD SCIENCE INC.
* A major shareholder, and president, of GILEAD SCIENCE is Donald Rumsfeld.
* The base of TAMIFLU is made of crushed aniseed.
* ROCHE controls 90% if the world's production of the tree.
* In 2004 TAMIFLU sold for a combined value of 256 million NZD, in 2005 for 1000 million NZD.

I am so sick of finding the links back to the Bush administration!

To me there are just too many facts that make the fear of contracting the flu and dying seem like a complete waste of my energy and time. There are far worse issues to worry about. More people have died from starvation, smoking, drinking during the first four months of this year than ever to die from the Bird Flu. Why aren't our governments taking action to combat these "pandemics"? Why aren't we, the people, who really have the power, getting really angry and reacting to the way our governments are misusing our tax money?

Goodness. This is really making me angry! I am just so fed up with the way we are letting ourselves be led by a bunch of people who don't seem to care about the truth. It is time to take a stand against all this rubbish. Write your local officials, write the ministers in government. Talk to the media. Search the Internet for your own information and make up your own mind wheater to believe this or not. Talk to your friends. Contact radio stations. Make flyers. Spread the word. Make a change.

Together we are strong.

Blessings to you all.

May we walk in beauty and love. May we all be happy.

With an abundance of love and light,

Mikaela
