Rishi Sunak has once again been dropping hints about leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. This is not credible, says Dr David McGrogan: such a feat would require a Government far more serious than this one.

USI PROMOTES ‘HE SAYS, YOU SAY’ SEXUAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN

May 8 2006

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is joining the Crisis Pregnancy Agency and the Dublin Aids Alliance to back today’s launch of a major sexual health campaign called ‘He Says, You Say’, sponsored by Durex as part of National Condom Week.

The campaign is designed to empower young women to insist on safer sex with answers to the excuses that young men make for not wearing condoms. The campaign is being promoted through the use of posters, information leaflets, postcards and promotional condoms in colleges and sexual health charities around Ireland featuring the ‘He Says, You Say’ theme.

A host of promotional activities are also planned to underline the posters’ message – that young women can set a positive example by refusing to consent to sex without a condom.

USI Welfare Officer Tom Lowth said: “USI is endorsing the ‘He Says, You Say’ campaign because condoms are the most effective means we have for preventing sexually transmitted infections, yet too many people, particularly women, still feel unable to insist upon safer sex with their partner.

“At this time of soaring STI rates, the ‘He Says, You Say’ campaign is vital because it empowers young women to respond to the lines that men use for not wearing condoms. Sexually Transmitted Infections can be harboured unknowingly for years without revealing symptoms, so it is important that women feel empowered to overcome lines like ‘sex isn’t the same with a condom’ with responses such as ‘you’re not getting any without one!’.

“By normalising the fact that women carry condoms, it also challenges the stigma that still exists around women who insist upon safer sex.

“USI urges young women to insist on using a condom for every act, every time.”

This move by the USI is a sure confirmation of the shift in education from ‘science for understanding’ to ‘science for manipulation’ (E F Schumacher; A Guide to the Perplexed.). In our time, we see this as a shift from a past preponderance of study of the classics (and its associated link between thought and science) to solely a concentration on commerce, science, business, economics etc.

For the USI to promote condoms is like “Turkeys voting for Christmas”. (How I hate that phrase, but I don’t want to loose readers with a longer winded explanation).

The official (governments’ policy) biggest problem facing the Western World is aging of its citizens. Now, why is this happening? The short term answer is that people are living longer. Could it be that in the longer term that the birth rate keeps falling?

The consequence of indiscriminate sex (sex divorced from creation) is a future complete economic meltdown, resulting initially in great enjoyment, then loss of freedom, then panic over the defence of an aging population etc. A race that allows itself peter out will in the process be plundered; historians (science for understanding) can back this up. When Growth is gone, all the science for manipulation degree holders will be able to do sweet F all. Economic Growth and increasing birth rate go hand in hand; but the comprehension of the corollary is somehow lost to our generation.

Come on Young Irish Men and Women! Let ye ask awkward question of those who dictate what you learn instead of following trends that are creating havoc all round the globe. Who is going to pay your pension? Don’t put your future in savings, the pendulum is singing in favour of financial pirates (Enron and governments that panic) world wide. We are lost if the young do not continually question beliefs. The most basic question for any civilasation is now raising its ugly head; is there a future for a society that divorces sexual intercourse from procreation?

Come on, we'll do our bit for the future of the species.
