If the BBC's Standards Committee, which is reviewing the corporation's coverage of climate change, wants a good example of bias, it should take a look at its report of recent floods in Pakistan, says Paul Homewood.

After-work solidarity vigil at St Patrick's Cathedral

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Tuesday May 16, 2006 01:33author by Fintan Lane - Anti-War Irelandauthor email antiwarireland at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

A vigil in solidarity with the Afghan hunger strikers, who are currently in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, will be held outside the building at 6.30pm today. Organised by anti-war activists, the vigil is intended to show our support and solidarity with those inside in their resistance to their impending deportation back to war-torn Afghanistan.

Please make a special effort to attend and encourage others to come along also. This is important. These men have been without food since Sunday and have also decided to refuse water. It is imperative that the extent of public support for their demand to remain in Ireland is made clear to Minister McDowell and the Fianna Fail/PD government.

A vigil will also be held at 12.30pm today for those who can make it during the day.

"Some of the hunger strikers are already in hospital. These men could die"

Stoic, exactly which part of the above sentences makes us ashamed? Which part is untrue? Some of the men are in hospital, and the hunger strikers could die.

Vigil is on again at 6.30 tomorrow evening. Be there Stoic or shut the fcuk up!

'Some of the hunger strikers are already in hospital. These men could die.'

Have a sense of proportion, they have only been 3 days on hunger strike. Hysterical slogans like that wont help the campaign and will be mocked by the rightwing media. Just get to the vigil

Come hell or high water, get to this vigil at 6.30! Some of the hunger strikers are already in hospital. These men could die.

Bring blankets and sleeping bags at 6.30 if you have any spare. No megaphones please: let's be respectful to those inside. And definitely no leftie papers: this isn't the time nor the place.

If you can make the 12.30 vigil, please do, as it is very important. If you are working and can't be there, then turn up at 6.30pm. If possible, be at both!
