Hunger strike plates anger Maze families

The Observer

Families of the 1981 hunger strikers along with H-block protest veterans have denounced Sinn Fein's main support group in the United States for selling plates commemorating the death fast.

A New Jersey branch of Noraid - the organisation that has raised funds for the IRA and Sinn Fein since 1969 - is charging $25 per plate, plus $7 shipping. All 10 hunger strikers are pictured on each plate.
...

Richard O'Rawe, the IRA's press officer inside the Maze during the 1981 hunger strike, said: 'You eat food off a plate and yet they have brought out a plate to commemorate the men who died refusing food. It's tacky and just about making money.'

Having read the thread about SF cashing in on the Film 'The wind that shakes the barley' reminded me of this article. It seems nothing is sacred anymore when it comes to making money.

Silly Willie Nilly, it costs money to travel the world meeting the great and the powerful, the corrupt and the warmongers. A free Ireland comes at a price, loads of money.

How dare they accuse Richard O' Rawe of cashing in on the Hunger Strikes when they are selling crap like this.

It seems that the apologists for PSF haven't much to say on this issue. They appear to hiding behind their keyboards. You can't defend the indefensible.

On reading this it shocked me so much that I find it hard to get it out of my head. This is the sickest and most horrific way of commemorating (and making money from) those 10 selfless brave men who made the ultimate sacrifice to improve conditions for others. Money certainly corrupts and is the root of all evil alright!!

How can anyone be surprised that Sinn Fein/Noraid would stoop so low as to be selling Hunger Strike Plates to raise funds ? They have sold out on everything else so they might as well sell out their former comrades.

Selling a few plates wont cost them a thought seeing as they had no problem with slaughtering decent working class people out having a few drinks in the pubs of Birmingham and then allowed more working class Irishment to rot in jail for it.

You can dress them up as much as you want but at heart they are just getting rich on the backs of gullible young working class people.
