Anti War Lyrics for Trad Tune "Whiskey in the Jar"

category international | arts and media | opinion/analysis author Tuesday May 30, 2006 04:05author by Geof Bard - United for Peace and Justice/ Indymedia SB Report this post to the editors

1st Publication Worldwide at Ireland IMC, as Heard on US Radio and Stage

American fiddle player Geof Bard, a generalist known to appear at an occasional Irish sessions on the US west coast, occasionally attacks a guitar, and has been blasting Blair on the airwaves with his fiddle and this adaptation of WIJ, a tune which is occasionally, erroneously known in the states as "Killkenny Mountain". Wildly popular with Americans, the tune lends itself well to satire. Use at will. First publication worldwide.

No Point to This Bloody War
To the tune of
Whiskey in the Jar
The Fiddling Bard

As I was going over
The bloody news one night
I spotted Mister Blair
And his lies they were a countin'
I first produced me fiddle
Then rattled me whistle
Said stand and deliver
For you are a bold deciever

Chorus

MUSHURINGUM DURUM DAH
Bush and Blair the Daddy O
There's one thing they do not know
There's no point to their friggin' war

Oh I went out protestin'
The crimes of Tony Blair
Invadin for those weapons
But there were not any there
The only WMD
Were Bush and company
And they bombed the town of Bagdad
Like they really didn't care

Chorus

Early next mornin'
The bobbies kicked me door in
They did not have a warrant
Just said our country is at war
I fired off a fiddle tune
And blew upon me whistle
But they just dragged me off to jail
In the presence of me wife

Chorus

They threw me into prison
Without judge or writin'
They took away me fiddle
And they took me penny whistle
But they didn't take me fists
So I knocked that sentry down
And headed for me tavern
In good ol' Sligo town

Chorus
