If the BBC's Standards Committee, which is reviewing the corporation's coverage of climate change, wants a good example of bias, it should take a look at its report of recent floods in Pakistan, says Paul Homewood.

What’s Happening with Rossport Solidarity Camp?

category mayo | environment | news report author Wednesday July 19, 2006 18:52author by Terry - Rossport Solidarity Camp Report this post to the editors

An overview of what Rossport Solidarity Camp is up to at the moment and has planned for the month of August.

Rossport Solidarity Camp is continuing its regular activities while embarking on a process of preparation for this coming winter and for 2007.
This year we will not be breaking down the camp for the winter months but rather will be maintaining the structures we have built thus far, so as not to have to re-start building from scratch in the spring. This will involve taking some structures down and weather proofing other ones.

Two campers will be taking part in the entire length of the long walk to Dublin, a walk from Rossport to Dublin starting in late July which is to draw attention to the fact that the Shell to Sea campaign hasn’t gone away and that the issues which led to the jailing of the Rossport Five are as live as ever. More details here: http://www.corribsos.com/index.php?id=763

We are also hoping to expand the scope of our international activism.
In August a number of campers will be travelling to Wales to take part in the Earth First! Summer Gathering. See: http://www.earthfirstgathering.org.uk/
We will also be sending people to this year’s Ecotopia, see: http://www.ecotopia2006.org/, and to the camp for climate action, see: http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/index.htm , to further spread the news about what is happening in Mayo and to seek to get more people involved.
We are planning a major international protest against Shell in 2007.

Another task currently underway is updating our list of people we can call upon to come to Erris to join the camp and pickets at short notice that is in an emergency situation such as an attempted resumption of destruction work by Shell and the state. If you can do this contact us at rossportsolidaritycamp@gmail.com with your phone number and location.

On the 4th to 7th of August, a bank holiday weekend, we are holding a get together on the camp. This is to be focused on practical building work on the camp, and on planning meetings as to how we can all contribute to carrying the torch of resistance to Shell into another year. Details are here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76981

We are currently getting great support in the form of two unexpected fundraising efforts. There is a benefit gig in Eamonn Doran’s in Temple Bar in Dublin this Saturday night, see: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76797, and the following Saturday Eoin O’Broin will be undergoing a sponsored de-dreading in aid of the camp, see: http://www.pledgebank.com/Cutthedreads
