Lebanon, Lies and Criminal Warfare

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Friday August 25, 2006 08:01author by Kwang zi Report this post to the editors

“Israel has a right to defend itself” was the inane excuse offered to the world by the Bush administration for the murder and vandalism committed by Israel in Lebanon – what price ‘defensive warfare’ in today’s world? The unprecedented vandalism and indiscriminate slaughter in Lebanon was (we are supposed to believe) the measured response to a border incursion and two kidnapped soldiers! Hundreds of dead children, wanton destruction and the criminal oil pollution of the Mediterranean coast are the results of Israel ‘defending’ itself?

Israel was attacked by Hezbollah with long range rocket launchers for over a month.
Hezbollah fired the missiles from civilian areas often in the middle of built up areas. Those rockets, thousands of them, were raining down on Israeli villages and towns and city Haifa killing and maiming scores of elderly, teenagers and children and forcing thousands to seek refuge in shelters.
Hundreds of thousands of people fled in terror from their homes.
The decision to attack Israel was not made by Hezbollah alone but at Lebanese cabinet level because Hezbollah has members. Since 2000 Hezbollah supported by Iran and Syria has ruled Southern Lebanon effectively as a state within the state of Lebanon. It is not simply a ragtag group of guerillas but a highly trained highly motivated and as recently been demonstated effective fighting force. Most of population in Southern Lebanon support Hezbollah and many Lebanese even Christian and Druze support them too.
Lebanon is basically a puppet terrorist state and proxy of Iran just as the Palestinian Authority is a terrorist body supported by Arab governments with funds, weapons and training.
Israel struck the infrastructure of Lebanon; roads, bridges, Beiruit Airport etc. in order to paralyse all movement in the country in order to prevent Hezbollah moving weapons and ammunition about, in an attempt to stop the movement and transportation of rockets and their crews or to destroy and kill them.
Telecommunications and civilian infrastructure were also hit to deny the enemy and the supporting population the ability to remain within the combat area and fight Israeli force more effectively during the ground offensive.
Tank and infantry units pushed over the Israeli border supported by heavy artillery and ground attack aircraft to seize and destroy the Hezbollah bases in village south of the Litani river and pushed through to the bank of the river sealing Southern Lebanon off from the rest of the country.

The offensive has had mized results.

Hezbollah was shattered by the fighting and since the end of hostilies has been forced to rebuild its fighting units who suffered horrendous casualties but its leadership and organisation remains intact.
Enough of the terrorists armies personnel survived so recruitment and training of new fighters is certain.

Hezbollah was forced to stop firing its missiles by the overwhelming firepower of the Israeli military but it still possesses huge quantities of weapons however the ability of Iran and Syria to resupply them has been ended.

Israel has occupied the southern Lebanon after suffering many casualties and can now withdraw to hand over control to the UN peace enforcement military units who will shortly occupy the area.

But the war was in conclusive.

If the UN force is weak with poor rules of engagement then Hezbollah will quickly take advantage of the situation and begin attacking both Israeli AND UN forces and recommence firing its rockets.

That is why hostilies are sure to recommence soon unless maximum force is applied to disarm Hezbollah and smash its organisation.

Where the war was successful - it has shattered the will of the Lebanese people to stomach another war with Israel - if Hezbollah begin their attacks on Israel again they can expect the Lebanese people to quickly desert them.

"Israel was attacked by Hezbollah with long range rocket launchers for over a month."

Israel fired hundreds of thousands ie 100x the amount of ordinance into Lebanon and killed 30x the number of people. Given that Israeli weapons are highly accurate only callous disregard for human life by Israel as well as deliberate targeting of civilians can explain the massive Lebanese death-toal.

"Hezbollah fired the missiles from civilian areas often in the middle of built up areas. Those rockets, thousands of them, were raining down on Israeli villages and towns and city Haifa killing and maiming scores of elderly, teenagers and children and forcing thousands to seek refuge in shelters."

Hezbollah weapons are inaccurate so this claim simply does not stand up to scrutiny as Hezbollah would not have been in a position to know where their weapons would have landed to a sufficient degree of accuracy to target anything less than the size of Haifa's port.

BTW the IDF also fire from civilian areas on the Israeli sie of the border as is attested to by the photos of Israeli schoolkids drawing on IDF artilery shells.

"Hundreds of thousands of people fled in terror from their homes."

1M Lebanese fled from their homes in the face of 100x the amount of ordinance. They had far more reason to flee as 30x more ordinance was fired at them and they also had no shelters to hide in.

"The decision to attack Israel was not made by Hezbollah alone but at Lebanese cabinet level because Hezbollah has members."

This is a lie.

"Since 2000 Hezbollah supported by Iran and Syria has ruled Southern Lebanon effectively as a state within the state of Lebanon."

This is nothing new and the Israelis set up and ran a puppet government and army in the south of Lebanon for the better part of 20 years!

"It is not simply a ragtag group of guerillas but a highly trained highly motivated and as recently been demonstated effective fighting force. Most of population in Southern Lebanon support Hezbollah and many Lebanese even Christian and Druze support them too."

Correct.

"Lebanon is basically a puppet terrorist state and proxy of Iran just as the Palestinian Authority is a terrorist body supported by Arab governments with funds, weapons and training."

This is where you've completely lost the plot. The Lebanee have been motivated by the Israelis to attack on the basis of long standing territorial dispuites and previous Israeli ethnic cleansing. They do not need Iran to provide motivation. They would fight the Israelis with homemade weapons as Hamas do in the absence of Iran or other arms suppliers.

"Israel struck the infrastructure of Lebanon; roads, bridges, Beiruit Airport etc. in order to paralyse all movement in the country in order to prevent Hezbollah moving weapons and ammunition about, in an attempt to stop the movement and transportation of rockets and their crews or to destroy and kill them."

Didn't work did it.

"Telecommunications and civilian infrastructure were also hit to deny the enemy and the supporting population the ability to remain within the combat area and fight Israeli force more effectively during the ground offensive."

At the same time they destroyed all road links so people couldn't get out thus providing the Israeli F16 pilots with a grotesque "turkey shoot" in which hundreds of Lebanese civilians fleeing from Israeli attacks, perished.

"Hezbollah was shattered by the fighting"

So shattered in fact that they were killing IDF tanks right up to the last minute?

"Hezbollah was forced to stop firing its missiles by the overwhelming firepower of the Israeli military"

This is complete rubbish as they fired 250 missiles, a record, during the last day of fighting!

"That is why hostilies are sure to recommence soon unless maximum force is applied to disarm Hezbollah and smash its organisation."

You just don't get it do you? The people living in southern Lebanon hate your guts because you have been killing them for decades. You will NEVER smash them short of complete genocide. Time to rethink your strategy as these guys and their Iranian suppliers are catching up very fast militarily. A sane person would do a fair deal now while they can.

"Where the war was successful - it has shattered the will of the Lebanese people to stomach another war with Israel - if Hezbollah begin their attacks on Israel again they can expect the Lebanese people to quickly desert them."

Again it's not the Lebanese Christians etc. you need to worry about. Its the people who live below the Litani river, who are poor and have nothing to lose and a very big axe to grind you need to worry about. They dont give a fuck about you, never mind the rest of the Lebanese.

As I stated so often, I am not a fan of Israeli politics. But fact is that the current war wasn't of Israeli making. Hezbollah, and only Hezbollah, apart ftom their puppetmasters in Teheran, are to blame for this mess. More than 4000 shells were fired into Israel by Hezbollah. The Israelis living in the border region had the foresight to fortify their houses with bomb shelters, something the Lebanese civilian population failed to do. And that's the reason why the death-toll on the the Israeli side was much lower than among the Lebanese population. Surely one can hardly blame the Israelis for the failure of the Lebanese to do so?!
And yes, any person/nation/country under attack has the right, if not even the duty, to defend his/her/itself from attack. Israel is no exception here.
So instead of non-stop Arabian nights sobstories, give us some facts please!

Sometimes it's hard to fathom that Irish message scribblers, or trolls using Irish pseudo-names, can be so callous, crass and barbaric. Lets read this comment by MM above slowly:

"......The Israelis living in the border region had the foresight to fortify their houses with bomb shelters, something the Lebanese civilian population failed to do. And that's the reason why the death-toll on the the Israeli side was much lower than among the Lebanese population. Surely one can hardly blame the Israelis for the failure of the Lebanese to do so?!...."

Israeli "foresight" and Lebanese 'stupidity' - couldn't they predicted that they will be bombed by their neighbours? Idiotic dumb Arabs....another example of why they deserve to be killed. About a thousand of them this time round with a number of thousands injured.

IN THE MEANTIME and in the real world:

The United States is probing Israel's use of US-made cluster bombs in its blitz on southern Lebanon, after warnings that the devices, which sow mini-minefields, were still killing civilians.
Confirmation of the investigation came as the United Nations identified a growing emergency, saying cluster munitions were reaping a bloody toll among returning refugees.
The United Nations Mine Action Coordination Center in Tyre raised a new alarm this week over cluster bombs, nearly two weeks after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force.
"Every day we hear about casualties -- it's a large number....we're in an emergency situation," said Dalya Farran, media officer for the center in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese military figures put the toll from cluster bombs to 11 killed and 43 wounded, including several children, since the ceasefire began on August 14.

One supposes MM, or one of his ilk, will come with a new argument that Lebanese children and old people don't really know how to walk properly....and they don't pay attention to where they're going.

"Idiotic dumb Arabs....another example of why they deserve to be killed"

Hezbollah "freedom fighters" insured that they were safe in bunkers. They revel in civilian casualties. It's great PR and besides most of the victims were christian and Sunni.

Idiotic and dumb indeed for supporting hezbollah and their war against Israel. Hezbollah's adventure cost Lebanon dearly.

Michael Y : "Lebanese military figures put the toll from cluster bombs to 11 killed and 43 wounded, including several children, since the ceasefire began on August 14 "

Hence :

"a new argument that Lebanese children and old people don't really know how to walk properly....and they don't pay attention to where they're going."

Well summarised. I wonder is it an intentional effect of the deployment of such weaponry, that the aftermath is an "accidental" minefield.
Regardless, it's another war crime by Israel: deployment of indisciminate weapons against civil society. Another good reason not to send Irish troops into the Israeli terrorist zone in Southern Lebanon. Irish legs are best attached to Irish Bodies.
The Post Imperialist French know the story, they aint sendin noone.

Hezbollah along with the rest of the Islamofacist terrorists in the Middle East and throughout the world seek to destroy the State of Israel and massacre the Jews and commit terrorist attacks against the West. That was the goal of the Arab armies in 1967 led by Gamal Nasser, it was the goal of Yasser Arafat in the 70's, 80's and 90's and it is the goal of Ossama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah presently.

The ZioNazi war-machine backed by over 90% of the population of Israel are clearly the agressors.

Israeli claims of being the underdog lost any credibility from 1967 onwards.

Face it that if you put as much energy into ensuring equal rights for your Muslim co-citizens and neighbours as you do into waging war, murder, torture, ethnic cleansing and associated propaganda nobody would want to wipe you from the face of the earth.
