offsite link Fifty Ways to Leave the European Convention on Human Rights Fri Apr 19, 2024 17:28 | Dr David McGrogan
Rishi Sunak has once again been dropping hints about leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. This is not credible, says Dr David McGrogan: such a feat would require a Government far more serious than this one.

Up to half of excess deaths in American nursing homes were due to the impact of lockdowns and mitigation measures on frail residents rather than the virus, according to new analysis.

The great Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume would have some things to teach today's woke activists, says Prof James Allan: about a mind-independent reality that has no truck with claims of 'my truth'.

It's been a wet winter and this is bad news for farmers, says Ben Pile. But with agricultural yields increasing sharply over recent decades, there's no reason to link it to climate change or start catostrophising about it.

Merckel's Double Whammy

category international | summit mobilisations | other press author Tuesday January 02, 2007 21:34author by tra-la Report this post to the editors

Pretty photos of daddy bush too....

Angela Merckel assumed yesterday the presidency of the EU and will host the G8 in 2007.
She is from the Christian right in Germany and notably stopped funding to stem cell research
programmes 24 hours after president Bush made use of his presidential veto in the US
to achieve the same thing.
Memories...
Memories...

Angela Merckel enjoys a close relationship with Pope Benedict the XVI, (indeed with the
exception of the schismatic Pope Benedict the XIII- {Peter De Luna from Aragon}- he would
be Pope Benedict the XVII).

The sites on the G8 and the Germany Presidency's aims and means are here:

Galloping Globalisation:

http;//www.ft.com/cms/s/fd3d430e-9asb-11db-bbd2-000077de2340.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_Merkel

The Ft headliner caught my eye as it trumpeted closer accord (bi-lateral indeed) between
the EU entity and the US entity. The full text of the interview is in the FT*.

{excerpt]

FT : " Matthias Wissman, Your fellow member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)
has called for the creation of a transatlantic single market by 2015. Is this your target too?"

Merkel: " I do not want to mention a specific date. but we have accumulated a certain expertise
about single markets in Europe (!), which we can apply on a transatlantic level. With increasing
globalisation, this can be a good basis for transatlantic cooperation. In the EU we have also
learnt how to combine the Anglo-saxon and continental legal systems, which are very
different from one another. This is why I think transatlantic co-operation will in fact be
more straightforward in many areas than might appear at first glance."

{or as a certain correspondent might say hmmmmmmmmmmmmm}

Other global news: in the Guardian review section of Saturday Vlad Putin, stated that
he and others were very 'surprised' that the Israeli premier had been indicted for rape,
because " they didn't believe he 'had it in him".

There are many meanings to 'Share the wealth': unfortunately the 'wealth' is at the
moment an oligarichical issue which involves a few bullies, right wing elitists,
sex-discriminators who intend to build a brave new world from the unlearned lessons of
the European past.

Pope Benedict called for World Peace on Sunday, his role in the EU and with the
Christian right accordists is opening out ,( the speech which I will link into comments
again notes that 'terrorism 'is a threat.)

The new EU president has wasted no time, her first duty has been to underscore
the EU's close personal relationship and search for one world trade accord with
the Bush regime. The blurb accompanying her visit stateside has been that
the accords will be positive and diplomatic but she will not shy away from the
issues of Guantamano nor the rendition flights in Europe.

In November 2005, the Warsaw Voice news published info on the use of Szymany Airfield
being used by the CIA for 'rendition', today's Guardian investigates the claims and speaks
with the female director of the Airport. Both stories are available through Google.

Enda Kenny is 'emerging as the great white hope' to remove FF.

This means that the meedea is firmly planting the Rainbow in our collective
imagination.

O yes- the rainbow coalition- they refuse to 'do' politics and have taken on
zero issues in this state- a bit like SF.

http://blogorrah.com/enda_kenny/ (Angela Hearts the Enda)

http://www.irishblogs.ie - (is Angela Merkel a secret blueshirt?)

yes- Angela Merkel has this last week interefered in the "irish Political Process"

Now - how was it done- she wrote a letter of support to Enda Kenny which
was read out at the conference. sure we all know that Kenny was not
democratically elected to the leadership of FG. We also know that
he is nasty and not very polite and that Pat Rabbitte is politically thick.

So call the election- the torture of the posturing is unbearable. The
Government collapsed in 2006 and we have been through one of the
longest and thickest attempt to pretend other wise by any regime.

There is no Government unless its run by IBEC-
