Animal rights group call on Environment minister to discontinue Stag- hunt licensing,

Demonstration Wednesday 31st January, Time 12.45-2pm.

Department of Environment Custom House Dublin.1.

The AOHS are issuing a renewed call for the Ward Union’s hunting license to be revoked by the Minister Dick Roche.

‘ In the aftermath of this weeks serious safety risk to children, the terror and ultimate death of a hunted stag , the property damage and disruption of a small village due to stag hunting, we want stag hunting ended permanently now.’

Minister Roche is responsible for issuing the permit to the Ward Union to hunt stag, which really is an exemption to the Wildlife Act, granted to Ireland’s one and only Carted Stag Hunt Club.

Following the suspension of the Ward Union hunt Clubs activities after this week’s serious public safety incident. The general public, farmers, locals and ourselves are united in our demands to rid County Meath of this nefarious and worthless pursuit.

Stag-hunting consists of taking a tame Stag from the Hunt premises , transporting it to a hunt, chasing it with up to 80 riders, 50 hounds, quad bike riders and car followers for up to 3 , sometimes 4 hours. The animal hunted this week was bloodied, terrified and later died of its injuries and stress. Two horses were also cut and injured due to falling on the public road. Children could have been under the horse or indeed injured or killed by the fast reckless hunt that engaged in riding up public footpaths and destruction of fences and trespass. A village was held to ransom as happens every Tuesday and Friday Oct-March.

It’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt this week, if a child had been killed would another license be issued?
The hunt cannot control where the stag enters, the animal is running for his life, he crosses roads, walls, fields of sheep and major roads in his terror.
The stag is tame not wild as it is kept by the hunt for one purpose …fun. The animal is chased, terrorised, and man handled by 4-5 men at recapture.
‘Stag hunting serves no ecological or practical purpose but to provide entertainment two days every week to supposedly upper class arrogant thugs’
.Farmers againt the Staghunt.

WE WILL BE SUPPORTED BY FARMERS AGAINST FOXHUNTING.(FAF)

it seems very hypocritical that you are one minute targeting fur farmers and meat farmers and then asking them to join you on a picket. you are hypocritical to say the least - its called selective compassion or whoever will turn up to make your picket that bit more

The farmers have a right to picket too, whatever their reasons for it. Should they be chased away from the demo in your opinion?

by...... maybe it's a jealously thing on your behalf as it is hunting season. Unlike holding circus demos when there are no circuses travelling.
Great demo. Well done to everyone involved.

By....why did you assume that the farmers were asked to attend the picket? Maybe they did it off their own bat....... Maybe they went because they too are opposed to hunting for whatever reasons, I see no selective compassion here it is as correctly pointed out hunting season and groups actually doing something and making things happen should not be dissed by people who sit around making assumptions and maybe (and I wont assume anything here by, I just say maybe) do nothing else.

why dont people on this comment list use their real name. we know well who BY is anyway. The bitchy comments about Dublin Groups always give him away, at least we are trying.Lay off and do something productive instead.

They are protesting about this as no doubt there will be a few quid to be made by bitching and moaning to the govt about how hard pressed they are. What with the price of new 4X4s these days and not being able to take 14 holidays a year either.I would bet a pound to a pinch of shite that FAF would be gone in an instant if the Ward or who ever runs their hunt over their lands in Kilkenny were paying the farmers rent for the use of the land. There is no concern for animals here from the farming viewpoint.Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves.
Have to say it is laughable this two protest groups. Both are bolstering their numbers with the other group, and both are poles apart, and proably hate each others guts.Doesnt say much for either groups morality either. Two groups of mionorities using their sworn enemies to get at a third group.Only in Ireland.

So you are back Sabwatch???

I doubt the farmers will make any money out of this one somehow...and, while I certailny don't speak on their behalf, it would seem from various reports that the main reason they are opposed to hunters crossing their land is because the hunters have such a blatant disregard for thier property and a lack of respect for the local community....

As for the morality of them supporting a ban, I ask oce again, do you think they should have been chased away from this demo??? Would that have been more in line with your own concept of morality???

Farmers too oppose hunting. Jst have a read of this article by Noelle Jennings from the
>> Meath Chronicle 3 Feb 2007
>>
>> Kildalkey farmers ban hunting over lands after school chaos
>>

A NUMBER of Kildalkey landowners are banning all hunting on their
>> lands following an incident in the village last week, where mounted
>> huntsmen chased a deer through the village, causing chaos.
>>
>> There was uproar when the Ward Union Hunt Club's stag was chased
>> around the local national school playground by a pack of hounds,
>> terrifying the children who were about to leave school for the day.
>>
>> With most townlands in the village and surrounding area being
>> affected by the landowners' decision, this effectively bans all hunting
>> in the Kildalkey area.
>>
>> Local farmer Tony Brady said all hunting was being banned for the
>> foreseeable future due to the "arrogance of the huntsmen and total
>> disregard for public and private property," of the Ward Union.
>>
>> He said the hunt secretary of the Meath Hunt and Tara Harriers would
>> also be notified in writing of the areas affected by the ban.
>>
>> The move follows chaotic scenes in Kildalkey village on Tuesday of
>> last week when more than 80 Ward Union huntsmen came through the village.
>> The stag and hounds entered the grounds of Kildalkey National School and
>> principal Kathleen Lynch said children were upset and frightened by the
>> incident. When she saw what was happening, Ms Lynch rushed around the
>> classrooms to tell the teachers to keep the children in their rooms.
>>
>> Meanwhile, Ward Union Hunt chairman Oliver Russell has apologised
>> for the incident, which he admitted had caused "anxiety and stress to
>> staff and potential risk to the children".
>>
>> Hunting was suspended by the Ward Union on Friday to allow for a
>> review of the incident but resumed yesterday (Tuesday). Mr Russell said a
>> number of measures were to be implemented following a meeting of the
>> management committee of the Ward Union.

As I see my name mentioned by faceless people on your website I would like to put the record straight. I am not now or have i ever been opposed to hunting and our lands are hunted by the Meaths and Tara Harriers. Until the Ward Union hunt crossed our lands we never had any trouble with any hunt. We have recieved an apolgy from the Ward and as far as we are concerned this matter has been resolved.
Yours Faithfully

The reason these cowardly types don't want to give their real names could possibly be out of concern that animal rights people might mount a dignified protest by digging up their mothers' graves or something like that.
