How about justice for the people of Omagh and for the families of the innocent people, especially the unborn children, who were cut to pieces by the RIRA bomb? If these people want justice then they should be asking the people responsible for the deaths to give themselves up and serve out their jail sentences. And if McKevitt had any decency he would accept hs fate and stay in prison.
The victims of the atrocity in Omagh deserve a proper trial, not another piece
of British/Irish collusion.
They will not get that on the evidence of the flaws inherent in this trial.
Mc kevitt deserves the right to innocence until proven guilty, not evident
in how the Irish state and Northern ireland are prosecuting this either.

The reasons for this campaign are becoming very evident to many of us.
Though I expect Minister for Justice Micheal Mc Dowell will be long retired
before his part in it is wholly discovered.
More dirty tricks went on in the last ten years than much of the time while the "troubles" were at their peak. Without making excuses for the Omagh massacre theres no doubt that those involved didnt set out to cause the slaughter that they did. Omagh suited alot of agendas at the time. That said if those involved hadnt driven a bomb there it would never have happened.
The Omagh families deserve a full public inquiry, why dont they follow the Carragher family and hold one of their own. Theres no doubt that they could assemble a powerful team but do people like Michael Gallagher really want to expose Britains dirty tricks and let the so called Real IRA off the hook, hardly.
Who did this guy murder ? The informer paid to give evidence against him even went as far as to say that he probably nothing to do with Omagh. I have been involved with the Republican movement probably as long as Mc Kevitt and I would rubbish the idea that other Republicans have contempt for him in fact quite the opposite, when he resigned he had the support of half of the movement. He like many others is a modern day architect of what is or was the Provisional IRA. As regards blood on his hands he would be a boy scout if compared to some of todays Sinn Fein leaders. His problem is that he was affiliated to the wrong wing of Republicanism, had he stayed with Adams and co he would have been a good Republican, the fact that he walked made him a bad Republican. Thats the reality of it. Conform or be crushed.
Joe. Agree with you insofar if Mc Kevitt had stayed within "mainstream" republicanism then he would have never gone to prison like this.
Also agree that the truth needs to come out, partly to bring justice to the good people of Omagh, partly to determine if Mc Kevitt is indeed innocent.
I doubt if it will ever happen. The British and Irish governments are not going to admit their part in a cover up or that they knew this was going to happen. Better to use Mc Kevitt as a scapegoat and appease, to some degree, the people of Omagh.
The RIRA are not going to tell the truth, partly becase they don't want to dredge the wole thing up again with the ensuing embarassment, potential loss of support and anti-dissident feeling and partly because it will mean some of them would probably go to prison and be shunned by people for the rest of their lives. Therefore Mc Kevitt is also a useful scapegoat for them.
Now I'm not saying Mc Kevitts guilty or innocent. I don't know the facts. But I do agree that if there is any semblance of doubt the judicial system sholud be doing everything in its power to clarify it. Who runs the judicual system? The Government. Catch 22. Either way it looks like he will be spending quite some time in prison as nobody is prepared to come forward and tell the truth.
