Professor of Journalism challenges the cliche Robert Jensen explores a problem encountered by journalists when they challenge the orthodox perspective. Jensen has written a piece for MediaBite which challenges the notion that journalism which disputes the conventional wisdom should always be labelled as "advocacy" or "activist", and seen as less trustworthy than traditional mainstream 'objective' journalism. He contrasts the journalism and perspective of John Pilger with that of John Burns from the New York Times – the former often disregarded as 'left wing' and the latter widely regarded as a trusted and objective mainstream voice. |

Jump To Comment: 1Pilger excoritaes the failure of the media in their coverage of the war in this recent public talk. He mentions Russian journalists who, while visiting the US, said that in Russia they have to imprison people and even tear out their nails to get them to stop telling the truth and they wondered why it was that the media in the US appeared to be doing it voluntarily.
