Did Dvorak really have that sort of obnoxious influence on the twentysomethings of his time, or was it just literary excess by a couple of critics?

I'm sure people said similar things about Dvorak...

Well I suppose it would be more honest to say that the (very) odd (courageous) critic saw him as deliberatly creating a small pond in which to look like a big fish or not really making making the most of his talents
